Latest Gearbox Post For Non-Gearbox Acounts
In reconition of the fact that not everyone would either want or be able to creat an acount on the Gearbox forums but still wanted to provide feed back, I have decided to take inititive and provide a means.

In summery, from what I can gleam, there is concern about having the UNH start the game with effectively 1.5x Cruiser firepower and provided there thoughts on what to do and is as follows.
1: Do what HW2 does and instead start with carrier first and then work up to getting enough RUs or something for bring that onto the battlespace.
2: Do what HW1 does and start with the Mothership virtually underarmed then doing what HWComplex does (my words, not their's) and upgrade the Mothership.
:My thoughts on this, I think number one I listed makes more sense to them because these things are pretty expensive and do something in research like "Revised Threat Annalises" and cost considerable amout of time to complet and Hyperspace the MS rather than RUs.

Second part concerns scouting of tech progression and how to signify what might be in the works.
1: Do what HW1 does and have a specilised research ship for that role combined with HW2's research module system for additional info/investment.
2: Do something new, have the modern resource controller double as reseach ship with modules and even have build capablility of rudimentary proportions.
:My thoughts on this, I think number two I listed makes more sense with what I thought made sense above with the mothership as to overall balance with the following qualifications,
a: Since it has to be built from the carrier, it has to be smaller then normal, at least at start.
b: drop the build capability from spacecarft and instead do so for modules.

Third concern relates to strikecraft. First about the the scout and second about the Intercepter, I shall cover them seperately.

Scout: Simply put, they feel it is redundant and do not wish to scrap the concept as follows.
1: A sort of dogfighting craft (analagus to the Patrol designation of early american aircraft in my mind) and is slower than the Interceptor.
2: A scouting sniper rifle of sorts intended for closer range scouting and VERY light harrasment.
3: A type of light bomber craft for more of a light raider then scout (some might even say, scout bomber as in Dauntless Scout Bomber, WW2, a bomber that doubles as fleet scout)
4: A specilised scout fighter with great sensors and with speed boost to overcome all scout types common weakness, slower than an Interceptor. They Intend to call this type the Recon and sinse the UNH already has the Recon, this is the type for the UNH.
:With each of these scout types being slower than the Interceptor and how each addresses it I think this is a promising step.

Interceptor: All though they did not present a series of thoughts on how to do this area of balance, instead they brought up the fundementle issue of why this is an area of concern, Non-Newtonian Ballistics, basically HW1's balance is the way it is because the designers built in Newtonian physics of sorts and worked from there.
:My thoughts on this, they must do Newtonian implementation. In my mind, it is a mark fine craftmenship in videagaming and is definately possible even on emense scale like Supreme Commander.

All and all, each of these ideas must be kept for consideration of all of the other Major factions, as each of these are neither better nor inferrior to each other as each military power makes their choices of what is better for them to persue based upon the context of the battlespace.

Now if any of you would like to post your thoughts for the HWF developers feel free to do so.

A comment/clarification, the reason the current UNH scout is called a recon is purely because it's using a model inspired by the Somtaaw Recon from Cataclysm. Most of the testing so far has focused on giving the UNH the dogfighter or bomber options, but all of them are being considered for them. The recon option was only named such because it seemed a fitting description.

I know, I think that part of the lore makes sense (and is cool as well, I might add.) Personally, having a fast scout to give me a heads up as to what I am facing is more valuable than heavier firepower or better close fleet defense. If I need that heavier firepower, frigates and destroyers seem to work with strikecraft there for economic attrition and innitial force interdiction.
