It's easier for sectoids and chryssalids, for example. The chryssalid skill tree is already quite good. If it was to be divided into three, I'd say one tree could focus on poison + better cocoons, another one could implement melee ablities similar to those of the shinobi and samurai classes, and the third tree could be a simple scout: +1 sight, reduced reduction range, reduced burrowing cool down, a kind of chryssalid that would be fit for striking often and scouting ahead rather than one-shotting enemies.
But that's just a thought.
