All possible weapon builds for the Soldier

Pure range:

Cannon
Shotgonne (Rifle)
Dual Pistol (Pistol + Pistol)

Melee involved:

Pistol + Any One Handed Melee Weapon
Shield + Pistol
Shield + Any One Handed Melee Weapon

Focus invested:

Weaponless Damage
Semi-Weaponless + Vitality Damage

Fire wand:

Dual Fire Wand + Swap Rifle (Ranged Fire Damage)
Fire Wand + Any One Handed Melee Weapon
Fire Wand + Shield
Fire Staff (Melee Fire Damage)

Melee only:

Dual Wield (Any One Handed Melee Weapon x2)
A Two Handed Melee Weapon

Grenade flexibility:

Grenade + Anything (Shield or Any Melee or Any Range Weapon)

Work in progress to write recommendations for skills with each weapon build.

Note that this is based on the vanilla skill and fame point limit at 132 skill points.
Added mods can raise the total skill point count allowing for 2+ weapon builds.
For simplicity: this assumes that the Player will max 8 skills at 15 points (= Tier 3 bonus) with a remaining 10 points left to invest in a 9th skill (10 points = Tier 2 bonus) finally left with 2 points for two Charge Bar Skills (1 point each).
The Player is assumed free to decide exactly how they wish to spend the final 12 points.
This is simply to provide a general guide list to enable the Player to make a more informed choice.
The Player is also free to invest less than 15 points in any skill enabling investment into more skills at lower numbers (Tier 2 or Tier 1).
I will only list the Charge Bar Skills once because they are very flexible in terms of build potential.

Note that all of the Charge Bar Skills can be used on any build and only require 1 point of investment to reach their max value:
. Intense Focus (attack and cast speed buff)
. Flintlock (added damage projectile)
. Flame Hunter (fire damage minion)
. Burning Release (damage plus fire buff)

. Mercenary (item and gold find)
. Cannon Barrage (not available yet)
. Field Medic (multiple heal pulses)
. Airstrike (vertical damage projectiles)

Note that half of the Explosive Skill Tree plus one skill from the Front_Line Skill Tree can also be used on any build; these skills specifically:
. Grenade (Fire Damage)
. Flametouched (Fire Passive)
. Shrapnel Grenade (Weaken Armor)
. Veteran (Charge Passive)
. Squad Tactics (Speed Buff)
. Burning Barrel (Fire DeBuff)
. Cluster Bomb (Crowd Grenade)

Note that this weapon build guide's priority is to list weapon restricted skills that are made available when wielding certain weapon combinations. Opinion and Preference of Choice is up to the Player whether certain weapon restricted skills should be replaced by skills that can be used in any of their builds.

Note that a combination of (mostly) Strength, (some) Focus, and (under 200 without Stat Enchants or 495 with Stat Enchants) Dexterity is beneficial to most Soldier Builds (unless stated otherwise). The only question is whether Vitality (Armor) benefits damage because of Juggernaut's skill inclusion. This will be listed in the builds below.

I was a little confused, at first. I finally figured out that you mean Pistol + Melee weapon, Shield + Pistol, Shield + Melee weapon, and that's why you used the header "Melee involved", because one of the options uses both a one-hand melee weapon and a pistol.

The only problem with this statement is that the level 105 pistols and shotgonnes cannot be equipped without very high dexterity. On my current dual-wielding pistol Soldier, the legendary pistols need 480 dexterity. I think when I looked up the level 105 legendary shotgunne, it also required 480 dexterity.

You say (under 200 or 495) Dexterity, but I'm not sure what that means. Which number is the correct one?

Both can be correct at different times depending on where the Player's level is. End Game also factors Boris the Stat Enchanter on high level items to increase stats over 500 total each if desired. I'll write more description to note this.

Glad to help!

Grenade skills are flexible hence can be paired with any build and weapon.
Choosing Shield skills offers two build styles:
Shield with a Melee weapon or Shield with no Melee weapon.
Having "No Melee Weapon" will offer less Front-Line skills available however Grenades can be used in every build with and without the Melee weapon.

Shield + Grenade is viable hence here's the list of skills plus possible Stat investments to empower the build:

Defensive Stat build every level-up:
Strength = 1
Focus = 1
Dexterity = 1
Vitality = 2
logic: Juggernaut skill uses Armor (Vitality) to add more physical damage to the entire build.
much faster to get maximum Block Chance on Shield.

Combat Stat build every level-up:
Strength = 2
Focus = 2
Dexterity = 1
Vitality = 0
logic: Less bonus from Juggernaut however more Dps and damage from other sources.
will take more items to max Block Chance on Shield.

Skills always available with any build:
. Grenade (invest Strength and Focus)
. Flametouched (invest Focus)
. Shrapnel Grenade (invest Strength and Focus)
. Veteran
. Squad Tactics
. Burning Barrel (invest Focus)
. Cluster Bomb (invest Strength and Focus)

Skills only available with an equipped Melee Weapon:
. Scavenge Armour (invest Strength and Focus)
. Juggernaut (invest Strength and Focus)
. Ground Quake (invest Strength)
. Counter Measure (invest Strength and Focus)

Skills only available with an equipped Shield:
. Shield Mastery (invest Strength and Focus)
. Shield Charge (invest Strength and Focus)
. Shield Throw (invest Strength and Focus)
. Spiked Shield (invest Strength)
. Shield Wall (invest Strength)

logic: increases the rate of speed a grenade is thrown.

. Flame Hunter (1 point: maxed)
logic: fire damage minion supports fire damage grenades.

. Burning Barrel (10 points: Tier 2 Bonus)
logic: targets take +25% Fire Damage at tier 2.


. Grenade (15 points: maxed)
logic: Main attack skill of this build. Fire damage.

. Shrapnel Grenade (15 points: maxed)
logic: Weaken target affixes. Physical damage.

. Cluster Bomb (15 points: maxed)
logic: Alternate between Grenade and this skill for a higher rate of damage.


. Shield Mastery (15 points: maxed)
logic: More defense and damage.

. Shield Charge (15 points: maxed)
logic: Utility. Can close the distance or escape with potential damage.

. Shield Throw (15 points: maxed)
logic: Can strike multiple targets on max rank. Destroys opponent shields.

. Spiked Shield (15 points: maxed)
logic: Counter-attack damage. Good for close-combat.

. Shield Wall (15 points: maxed)
logic: Missile Reflection. More defense. Other bonuses on every tier.

Optional: Vitality Grenade + Shield Build
Same as above however replace Shield Mastery with Juggernaut for more damage.
Requires an equipped Melee Weapon in order to gain this benefit.

. Juggernaut (15 points: maxed)
logic: add Vellinque Skulls to items, get Boris' Vitality Enchants onto items,
equip items with high Armor, equip a scroll that adds an Armor bonus,
this will enable even more damage because of Juggernaut.
