I would not actually recommend that. Some parts of the drill have to be specifically named to work with the script or need to have actions set up in some timer blocks.
Unless you know what you are doing you will likely not get it functional. My tip would be to build it in the way you described, then delete it and cheat in a finished version of the vehicle. Or at least to spawn in the workshop build next to it to compare.
Are you by any chance playing in survival?
No, Creative. I didn't think to paste it then swap back to Survival. Could that be the problem?
Yeah, I'm having a lot of problems with the pistons. I turned tool shaking off, maybe that's causing it? I wouldn't think so, that sounds backwards. Anyhow, every once in a while it hits the edge of the hole or has an issue in some way (I haven't actually observed it, considering how many times it's happened), resulting in the rig tower exploding. In the least severe cases of explosions, a single landing gear is destroyed and a few blocks are crumpled. I turned the speed down to 0.075 in the programmable block, and it still happens.
This is singleplayer survival, on Kerbin Earth. This problem has been happening on the middle of lakes (Level terrain?), without mods.
Maybe I need to turn the handbrake on as well as the braking gear? It really doesn't do much, but I'll give it a shot. I'll need to make a new world, in my current one I accidentally saved with the rig busted. I knew it would happen since the landing gear were both destroyed, but I didn't notice it came off entirely when I saved.
Maybe I can make a mod for rigidity. It's probably physics code though, so it would either be a game mod rather than a workshop one, or inaccessible since I can't edit Havok last I checked.
Also, I made a mistake in my last post. Keen does not maintain the physics engine, I was thinking the graphics engine. They maintain VRage, but Havok is for physics.
Anyhow, back to the pistons. I did a bit of searching and found that putting a gyro or two could help a lot. I'm not saying this as a suggestion Unless you want to take it as one, but rather as just something interesting.
There is also an issue with stuff transferring between cargo containers incessantly, so that I can't search properly since they keep changing containers, and I can't grab them easily. It might be a programmable block, I'll need to check that before you worry too much about this. It might also be a SE issue, who knows?
Okay, your problem is probably not connected to the pistons, but to survival. The swinging is a phenomenon I have too and it never hurt me. However, if the vehicle's cargo containers are full, the drills won't collect the stone they mine and it will collect in the hole and jam the drill, causing it to break. This might be your problem. If it is, either make more cargo space, add further stone-ejectors or set down the drilling speed. (In order to do that you have to set the constant "extspeed" from 0.2 to a lower value in the rig control script)
If that doesn't fix your problem please contact me again and I will take another look at it.
The jumping between containers is a bug with the conveyor sorters is a bug that exists since the conveyor performance update. Just deactivate the convenor sorters for a moment, then reactivate them. The items should stay put after that.
