How to make a standing stone

I got quite frustrated trying to take a flat stone and make it standing. I managed to flick one once but it was hard work. Anyone got any tips for doing that?

Hold down alt and rotate with the mouse wheel. Will also help to lower your lift height to 0. Still kind of a pain when you need to move it (as it will fall flat), but placing works well.

Now the pieces have states so, while holding a piece, if you press 1 it will turn into a flat stone, if you press 2 it will become a wall
