'Spire Defense
First up, a bit of news regarding the "Armorspire" version: This is not simply a combat-steel / armor-window upgrade of the current 'Spire, but an entirely new build. I've posted a couple previews for the curious. Exterior[i.imgur.com] | Hangar[i.imgur.com]

The goal is to create something with the same general aesthetic, without sacrificing defensive or structural capabilities. However, I don't PvP and have little to no experience with raiders or base defenses - my attempts to incorporate turret emplacements tend to mar the actual design.

So my question to you all is this: Should I continue to try working turrets into the structure of the Armorspire, or offload point-defense into separate dedicated structures? (example) Obviously, these would be done in a matching style.
There's obvious benefits to both approaches - integrated turrets are easier to manage, take control of, and resupply, as well as being powered from the base itself. Deployed separate turrets are more versatile, could be placed in any number (and expanded on if needed), and could be used with any base, including this one.

Thoughts?

I personally go for functional over style since I have none and rely on constructions like yours to supply it. My functional side says just tack on a 'pod' at each corner connected by a small steel beam and throw a cannon on it. My awareness of my own lack of style says that for someone with your skill, you should begin from the ground up to create the Armorspire. Thinking battleship vs. cruise ship. Yamoto vs. Queen Mary. Both beautiful ships with very different purposes.

One trick I do is to bury an underground "arm" (leg?) coming off one corner or side of a base and put a turret emplacement at the end of it. They look like separate structures with their own core, but they're not, and thus they can use the main bases ammo crates and generator(s).

turnbelt - as mentioned, Armorspire is being built from scratch ;) I focused it around a 9x5 hangar bay this time, to give more space for a proper HV tank or mid-size SV, on the notion that anyone building an armored base wants a protected spot for their vehicle. The main issue I'm running into with turrets is, the overall structure moves vertically and turret emplacements are better placed horizontally. Trying to meld the two without having a bunch of unsightly turret platforms sticking out is what's giving me a headache lately.

Zombielord - I'd considered turret pylons as an option, but the one flaw with those is, they expand the base's footprint and make it more difficult to judge placement. That's the sort of method better left to expanding your base after it's been built, at least in my opinion - not ideal for prefab blueprints.

Thank you both for the input though!

I see. This is when pistons to push turrets out of concealed recesses would be very nice.

Hah! No kidding, right? I would love retractable turret emplacements, though I have the feeling they would be even more of a headache to work with (for this particular build). Right now, I'm leaning towards a few small emplacements for minimum coverage, and stand-alone emplacements to supplement defense. I have the feeling that no matter how many guns I try sticking to this Armorspire, there'll still be people who think it isn't enough. I have no interest in PvP, so I'll let the folks who enjoy it decide how best to defend their property.

Kieve -- here is my version -- see if it gives you any ideas. Let me know when you want me to take it down -- it's not properly attributed.

I subbed, and will have a look at it when I get home. Sadly, I'm at work right now and I think they'd have a slight issue with me gaming on the company laptop ;)
I don't mind it being posted, but perhaps set to Friends Only and I'll add you?

Either way, I appreciate you taking the time and interest to help make the Spire even better!

i new and havent spawned the building into a game yet, but you could try putting it in a base thats its own matching design and putting the turrets on the ground lvl. set into the design of the base "pad". just an idea though im cant build anything this good looking only been playing the game for 2-3 weeks. and nothing i build looks anything like this.
