Genius devs thought it'd be smart to prevent people from joining your own game if they own dlc and you don't, vice versa as well. This is the most assbackwards decision I've seen in a game in a long time. Straight up warning, if you purchase ANY dlc, you are no longer able to join anyone who does not have the exact same dlc as you. I'm sure there's a good game in here but good LORD I have no clue why they made it like this. This means that me and 3 other friends have to basically purchase the entire game's dlc to enable us to join each other without having to disable anything, so if there's any certain item you wanna use client side from a dlc and your friend doesn't have it, you CANNOT play with each other.

Take 2 seconds to google this issue and it's literally threads upon threads of people complaining about this. How they have not changed this since 2016 is wild. And no, we're not troubleshooting and adding launch codes to the game files, f*ck off with that.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is a tricky title to recommend to first timers or to even people who are reluctant after playing the first game. The game was released in 2009, Call of Duty was growing fast in popularity so it's very clear that Monolith wanted to cash in on the military shooter craze. Even though the game had its problems, they still managed to release a very solid shooter. But it came with a loss. A huge, huge loss in my opinion. I'll list some cons/things removed from F.E.A.R 1 to this game.

- The overall atmosphere is hugely downgraded compared to the first game. Hope you like destroyed city!
- Player movement is DRASTICALLY reduced with the implementation of sprinting, which is also painfully slow.
- Leaning is completely removed, making peek shooting feel terrible.
- The new "cover" system is useless. Crouching behind stuff you topple over doesn't protect you at all.
- No health boosters
- You can't holster your weapon to punch or to even move faster
- The game doesn't support mouse thumb buttons (I mainly use quick melee and grenades on mine)
- If you crouch, reload or do any movements too fast at once, your camera gets locked in a weird static position.
- There's a mouse deadzone issues with really small inputs which makes precise aiming kinda garbage
- Also on the topic of mouse issues, you need an external file to make the mouse function properly
- Weakest sounding guns in the series (Seriously, the shotgun sounds like you're blasting out air at enemies)

But what's good? I mean, I think the shooting is good at least and they did the slow-mo pretty well. The story is pretty good if you like what Monolith has put together from the previous game as it hits the ground running pretty much as soon as F.E.A.R 1 ended. Definitely not as good as the first game but it's still worth a playthrough.

Absolute peak 2000's shooter. This will pretty much be one of those games I'll be replaying for the rest of my life. There are few games that replicate what F.E.A.R does in terms of gunplay and atmosphere. It definitely has its own issues with having to troubleshoot the game to run on modern hardware/software and also certain aspects of the game didn't age well (mainly the horror parts) but I truly think any FPS fan needs to play this at least once in their lives. Do yourself a favour and PLAY THIS MASTERPIECE.

If anyone tells you that the AI in F.E.A.R is better than anything made nowadays, they are RIGHT. I literally have not seen another game come remotely close to how AI tries to topple the player. The Replica Soldiers actively communicate with each other, use equipment thoughtfully and are always trying to flank you when you least expect it. Check out this video showing how the soldiers operate.

I truly wish Monolith with return to the F.E.A.R series with either a new entry or even a remake/remaster, but I fear (lol) that they will miss the mark at what made this classic shine in the first place.

Hey also check out Trepang2???

Very interesting concept executed poorly with game breaking bugs still prevalent in 2023. Having a randomised gameplay loop is great for replayability but after about a hand full of runs you've basically seen everything the game has to offer within 4ish hours.

From my personal research, the bug where your player literally starts to grow in size until the point where you get stuck in the map is still in the game since as far back as 2017. This means if you encounter this bug, your run is basically over as you'll get stuck somewhere and are forced to exit the game. This happened to me in 2 runs almost at the very end of each and it's basically unplayable.

Also if you have a 11th, 12th or even 13th gen CPU (I'm running a 12900k) you can forget about playing this unless you want to run troubleshooting as the game will not launch unless you add lines of code somewhere in Windows 10. Google the guide if you're having issues or are curious.

This game would of majorly benefited off of custom content or even a steam workshop with how the gameplay loop is but it's very clear the devs abandoned it in hopes their sequel would pop off. Spoilers! It didn't. That game is deader than dirt.

Very disappointing, you guys had something good on your hands here if you tidied it up a bit. Hard pass unless you wanna deal with bugs.

I would rather eat glass then continue to deal with how poorly Fatshark handles this game. Like ffs, remove the fomo shop and fix the prices. $20+ for terrible reskins of things that were sold on launch for 1/3rd the price. Give us a way to earn cool cosmetics and weapon skins by y'know, PLAYING the game. What a crazy concept. Realistically I will not be touching this game again until a major expansion or dlc is released that adds a new enemy faction or dare I say it, a new class! Wowie! Do better Fartshart.
