Review + Reasons to Play

Best Street Fighter to date in my Opinion. Everything from the Art Style, to the Soundtrack, to the Character Designs, to the Fights and Rivalries. This game is amazing.

For people who want to learn fighting games, the World Tour Mode slowly drip feeds you techniques and things you need to know. All in a very accessible and well thought out way. The only training ive seen thats better or on par with this is the Skullgirls training mode. Both of these show you all the methods, explain everything well, and allow you to improve.

I have been playing SF since the 90's and got very serious in the end of SF4 and start of SF5, carried though now to SF6. With the roster thats building up and the hype around the major Esports events, this is truly one of the greatest times in Street Fighter history imo. Akuma, my main of 20+ years dropped and I have been addicted since. I got to Platinum with AKI and stopped, but when Akuma came back I started putting more and more hours into it

Yes, it does take a lot of time to get good at the game. Yes you do have to train yourself. Yes you do have to learn to execute. Yes you will have to learn to lose, and use it as a learning opportunity. (I would recommend using Classic and learning that way, so you actually learn the standard procedure instead of shortcuts which may not be available to you in other games or down the road.)

If you can get past the learning hurdle and keep at it. Even just like 20 mins a day or so, you can build up skills to start winning and having fun. I have made lifelong friends thanks to the FGC and my partner plays them. We train and lab with each other and I always feel so blessed to have put in the hours to be able to do this with him. Actually going all out and fighting, adjusting in the match to each others playstyles, honing labbed combos, the whole 9 yards.

The time investment is an investment into yourself. If you end up hating it after you start to learn, then put it down, but certainly dont be one of those people who hates on it without trying it or experiencing all it can bring. I started playing heavy because I saw EVO and wanted to do those combos. I stayed because despite its drama like every group has, the friends you make and the memories you have are invaluable.

SF6, is just the shining star of the FGC in my opinion. Tekken is great too, MK is a game of all time, but SF6 is one of those games thats going to be around and popular. In my opinion SF is always the best fighting game to learn simply due to that. Not only that, but most of the fundamentals in SF carry over to anything else you play. The same cannot be said about other fighters.

Fighting Games allow you to watch yourself improve in real time. The ups and downs while training are what make the wins so satisfying. SF6 gives you all the tools to be able to really take advantage of replays and setups. With the new additions of replay takeover coming and more QoL features, Ghosts/Rivals, I think SF6 will be the best training mode we have ever seen.

If you want to get into fighting games, now is the time to do it. I suggest starting here first! You will not be dissapointed.

And tip. You can either do the "Play Ryu for 6 months to learn basic fundamentals" or just pick a Character you like, and learn the fundamentals with them. Thats what I did, was a lot more fun and I actually stuck with the game.

Good Luck! Seeya in the ranks!

Last time I played this game was March 11th 2020... Some things happened in between there and I completely forgot about this game.

Today I reinstalled the game and gave it a whirl and its nothing like i remember in the BEST way! This game is an absolute blast to play. The design, combat, story, weapons, relics... just everything has been improved drastically since i remember playing it last.

I cannot recommend this game enough! Absolutely a great time killer and the runs (for me) last anywhere between 20mins to around an hour depending.

Absolutely would recommend this game. I was looking for a game to kill time waiting for SF6 to drop, but I may have rediscovered a game I will be playing for a long time to come. I love roguelikes and have beaten the hell out of most of the popular ones on steam but somehow forgot this one. Oh well, saving the best for last I suppose!

below is one of those generic chart looking things for quick overview. Have a great day!

UPDATE: DEAD GAME
On the latest community announcement the devs stated that the 2.0 update that has been hyped up for 2 years will not be coming out. No further updates at all will happen. The game is dead.

This game was fantastic and the 2.0 update was really shaping the game into being able to stand next to the legends of the roguelike genre. But they just quit and killed the game prior to release.

If you havent played them, play something like Binding of Isaac, Slay the Spire, Spelunky, Gungeon, Paper Planets, Brotato, etc over this.

Seriously had an incredible game here that could have been relaunched as 2.0... instead the took it out back and unceremoniously put a shell in its head. Honestly sad.

Prior review below this point.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have played a ton of roguelikes in my day, and this is now my #1. Since I picked up this game I have completely stopped playing Atomicrops, Slay the Spire, Desktop Dungeons, and a ton more. This game is by far the most fun, challenging, and tightly controlled twin stick (and roguelike) i have ever played.
Sincerely give this game a shot. The story will rip you to pieces, but I enjoy that so bring it on.
11/10. This game needs WAY, WAY more attention. Buy this over Brutal Orchestra, hands down.
I will say, the controls are strange but make sense on controller. I play on KBM and its PERFECT. makes 100% total sense and I will not be playing on pad anymore lol. If thats a bone of contention and you can play on KBM, do it.
BUY THIS!
Okay... so heres my thing with Brutal Orchestra. The art style is awesome, the humor is good, and the overall set and setting are nice.
The combat is more a match the colors game than a roguelike imo. Its VERY basic and very boring TO ME. I have about 10 hours in this game on Lutris on my laptop. I kept playing over and over thinking it would change it up or the game would "start" but sadly it did not.
I adore roguelikes. From Nuclear Throne to StS, but this just doesnt feel like a true roguelike or RPG to me. I really want to like this game and ill come back to it later on. Its worth the purchase, but in my personal opinion its not something I could ever see myself playing for more than the time ive already spent on it, which was 10 hours, and i enjoyed about 30 minutes worth of it.
no hate to the devs, just not my deal. I would recommend Slay the Spire, Nuclear Throne, Across the Obelisk, Boneraiser Minions, and a few others over this.
but what do i know, im just a bug on the internet.
Edit: To the dev request. No. Thats as much time as I am willing to put into it. Plus, that lutris prefix is long, long gone.
This was my frist MH game that i stuck with. i had played around with some on the 3DS and others but it never clicked. I played through all of World with my friend and we picked up Iceborne together.
Well, we had no idea that Iceborne was going to basically restart us. so we put the game down. Fast forward a few years and we are back playing Iceborne and its just incredible. It runs perfectly (On linux!), tons of people are playing, and the game feels polished and complete. Couldnt be happier.
Im honestly surprised i got back into it and it stuck with me. Highly recommend. Its fun to solo but more fun with a friend or 3!
The devs took out the OG ending to sanitize it for some reason. Never buy their products. They may pull it out from underneath you in a few years under the guise of self harm or some other BS.
Game is okay at best. Lost all good faith with the BS they pulled years back.
I want to say yes, but it will stay no for now.
Picked this game up again after not playing it for years. The changes are awesome, the game plays great, and the builds are fantastic.
The problem lies with actually being able to play with people. I tend to play late at night with my partner who is right next to me. We have to play online, no LAN or direct connection option, and it crashes constantly. (AE08 or some variant. Its usually AE(number) and from what i have seen online its disconnection from server.)
Sometimes you will get an hour, sometimes 5 hours, sometimes 30 mins, sometimes constant crashes every time you login. Even after restarting the program.
Its a shame, cause its a fun game. Kinda janky in some control areas, but great otherwise. Its completely ruined when you want to play with someone and cant due to having to play online. Meanwhile, every single other game I own does not suffer from this issue. Sucks man.
