I played 120 hours in a campaign, just got to Act III where I found an important lore character bugged out and flat-out died. The other NPCs involved in the event is bugged, no option to continue the dialogue. It's not game-breaking, per se, you still have other options to advance the story, but ffs it's definitive edition, this kind of bug should not exist in the first place.

Really killed my mood to continue playing this game.

Refunded for two reasons:

1. It's an unoptimized PC port - expect crashes. In my case ten minutes into the game the game crashed, your mileage may vary but there will be crashes. Pray to god you can still issue a refund then. You have been warned.
2. Game collects your data with no way to opt out. You may laugh this off but for me this disingenuous practice should not be tolerated.

Biggest downfall about the campaign is the employment of artificial difficulty in form of enemy reinforcement. While reinforcement mechanic is commonly used in strategy games, in Battletech the reinforcing enemy units get to act on the same turn they're deployed; meaning they will always get the jump on your units. This is laughably bad because of the flanking and rear attack mechanic, you'd decide where your mech would face during the previous turn. Worst case would be you'd be flanking your enemy mech, and the reinforcement arrived...facing right at your open rear, and getting to open fire at the very same turn.

This is hardly fair and most of the time just plain frustrating.

Just get XCOM and save yourself the trouble.

My biggest gripe with this game is the limited options. You pick a class fro your daughter, name her, and that's basically it. Sure you can change her hairdo, eyes and what-not, all of which are indistinguishable in-game. The whole purpose of the sacrifice mechanic is that it's supposed to hurt - the game wanted you to be attached and grow your favorite unit but the limited customization means you'd better off naming your daughter with numbers.

Darkest Dungeon had similar idea of treating units as pawns but actually reward favoritism. Here it's just the opposite, you're urged to keep every one on the same level, with basically the same tried-and-true team composition every game, and favoritism is severely punished. This leaves the game as a grind, and there's just not enough in it.

DLC encounters are not properly balanced - it's basically just a slog fest, a series of ridiculously difficult encounter, one after another. Once you leave an area you won't be able to come back, so either you fight all the encounter and get all the loot in one go or just skip some. You don't have any control of which area to go next or the freedom to explore, and there's only one meaningful choice that affect the outcome - which is generally not what you'd want from an RP game.

"You make the choices, dice decide your destiny."

Dice roll is one of the central mechanic in the classic tabletop RPG. In many computer games, these rolls are reduced into nothing more than numbers in the log - this is because games like BG, NN, and PoE are meant to be played in real time, thus showing the results of your roll for every action is impractical. Pathfinder: Kingmaker had the option to play the game as turn-based combat but it's clear that it's not the way the developer intended; combat feels slow, every turn is spent just taking turns hitting until one side is eliminated.

Solasta took a different approach to present the game: it is made to be played as turn based RPG, and the result of your roll is shown for every action you take. It took a core mechanic and put it in its deserving place, and it worked out great.

Forest spirit lead me into a death trap and I lost an eye but at least I got that sweet, sweet, fire dagger.

10/10 would lose the other eye.

Early Access Review
Extremely fun when playing with friends.
Matchmaking takes too long to find matches.
Terrible balance issue when playing solo, everything above normal difficulty one or two shots you.

Worthwhile if you have friends. Skip otherwise.

Code Vein drew combat inspiration from Dark Souls - unfortunately instead of taking inspiration from DS1 or DS3 they took the slow, clunky combat mechanic of DS2. Combat is so slow it feels like you and your enemy are taking turn swinging your weapon. If this is what the devs are aiming for they might as well make a turn-based anime Souls.

As a DS veteran this just doesn't scratch the itch. Get it at a discount.
