Historical Battle of Adrianople (overhaul)

Description
Our brand new overhaul for the historical battle of Adrianople is live in v1.1!

NEW:
The Roman version of this mod is released, in which you can control the Emperor Valens and his imperial troops!
The Roman version of the battle of Adrianople

What's new compared to v1.0: The units used are all but based on completely new files, rather than based on vanilla ones as before in v1.0, so no DLC packs are needed, thanks to our talented moddler, SIMIVS!

And now unit positions are set according to Osprey's illustrated book on the battle of Adrianople, and both sides are neatly deployed!

NOTE: This is among our ambitious compilation of series of overhauls to come for virtually all vanilla historical battles, aiming to make historical battles as historically-accurate as possible.

NOTE: This is NOT a campaign overhaul. This is specially designed for Battles --> Historical Battles.

NOTE: This mod is rather huge as it contains various high-res textures and models, specifically and only designed for Rome and the Visigoths, like none before.

Summary

Vanilla historical battles are fairly good, but they can be less than satisfactory in two major aspects:
1. The unit compositions of either side can be much too general , sometimes historically-inaccrurate or even incorrect due to restrictions of vanilla units. Instead of what you had seen in vanilla battles, in the historical battle of Adrianople the ERE would deploy its brave Palatini, Comitatenses and Auxilii batallions while the forces of the Visigoths were actually composed of several germanic tribes including the Tervingi and Greuthungi, apart from their Alanic, Thracian and Hunnic Mercenaries, which were not so weak as compared to the Romans attacking "tired and dehydrated" as vanilla ones.

2. The winning tactics the player can actually adopt in-game could be way much far away from what was used in real history. For instance in our situation, Fritigern's Visigothic troops managed to buy some precious time for their reinforcement cavalry to rescue them by beginning some sort of negotiations so that the main infantry were not actually taking much casualties when the reinforcement arrived, while in game the player has to hold the line for so long time that the main troops were almost exhausted in high difficulties. But unfortuntely we will leave this vanilla aspect untouched until fully mastering the battle scripts.

Features

What amazing changes this particular mod actually presents to you:

1. Brand new units. New unit models for both ERE and the Visigoths, including helmet styles imported from Total War: Arena, as well as amazing shield patterns for ERE inspired by the famous Notitia Dignitatum together with the ones for the Visigoths coming from what we found of contemporary Gothic art styles. And don't forget the new unit cards that are highly recognizable!

And the unit names of either side are completely changed to be historically-immersive, included are the famous Domestici Peditum, Lanciarii Seniores, Matiarii Iuniores and Batavi Seniores among other Palatinae, Comitatenses and Auxiliae batallions, as well as general names like "Bacurius, Scutarii Sagittarii" and "Alatheus, Comitati Greuthungorum".

2. More units ready for command. The actual troop size for both sides are in a 1 to 5 scale compared to that in history (by most accounts ~15,000 men), as ERE and the Visigoths are deployed of around 3,000 men on either side of the battlefield, in other words, of about 30 units each.

3. Enhanced units skills and attributes. The Visigoths now have more skills at their disposal, as the general(s) can rally, inspire, unite their friendlies and intimidate their enemies, with the Gothic nobles now being able to defend themselves, the Thracian friendlies capable of frenzily charging and the mercenary Alans and Huns are just as badass as how they should be; While ERE, on the other hand, could deploy their highly-disciplined (but tired) infantry which are able to bravely stand and fight like how they did historically as well as the terrifying Clibanarii that can charge, retreat and even fire while moving.

4. Camera for the beginning cutscene is slightly adjusted to better cover the new units as the Emperor Valens is now walking on foot instead of riding on horse and the camera is raised to keep him centered.

And much more to come!

Instrustions on Installation

This mod is a collection of both models and database, so this single file deal with what is covered above. Select this mod and jump into the historical battle to see for yourself!

This mod MAY be compatible with other battle enhancement mods that don't alter vanilla unit stats, and MAY NOT be compatible with major unit overhauls like FotE. Compatibility feedbacks are welcomed!

Progress & Future Plans

Next in-coming battle overhauls:

Epic 4 v 3 battle of the Catalaunian plains (to be precise, WRE & Visigoths & Alans & Salian Franks versus Hunnic Empire & Amali Goths & Gepids/Rugians/Heruli, with historical attacking patterns for both sides as well)

Battle of ad Decimum (featuring also John the Armenian and Solomon as allies, as well as Vandalic generals Ammatas and Gibamund, with historical attacking patterns for both sides as well)

Newly added battle of Strasbourg / Argentoratum, playable as Julian the Apostate, featuring the Magister Equites Severus as supporting allies, and Alamanni generals like the high king Chnodomar.

@Simply Shifty Yes, we have finished some unit rosters for ‘Vandalic War’. The Sassies and Roman units of ‘Magister Militum per Orientem’ are still working in progress, any help is welcomed! :steamhappy:

@vusalf Thanks for the compliments:) Actually the unit models that we made here are intended for a real campaign set in 395, which probably we will see later this year lol... All credits go to Simius, our talented modeller!

I haven't installed the mod yet but looking through screenshots here these units and cards look gorgeous! I believe the roman shields used here are the most correct shape of oval and ovoid style than those crappy way too narrow oval shields in vanilla and most mods. I wish units in all mods looked like yours here :) would've been so great if you guys decided to expand further into modding for units for campaigns etc.
