Ancient Techs Rebalanced - Vox Populi

Description
Adds a new level of depth the to the ancient era with hunting, fishing, mysticism, stone tools and wood working. Monument and shrine require these new techs. New buildings include furrier, carpenter, fish traps, apiary and the Lascaux Caves and Knossos wonders.

Requirements

Requires the (2) Community Balance Overhaul[forums.civfanatics.com] mod (aka Vox Populi). If you do not play Vox Populi, the vanilla BNW version of this mod can be found here.

Direct Download

This mod can be downloaded via civfanatics by clicking here[forums.civfanatics.com] and instructions on how to install here.[forums.civfanatics.com]

Compatibility

Compatible with any tech mod that does modify ancient era techs. Not compatible with 'Trading Post Turn into Towns".

Background & Reasons for creating this Mod

The ideas behind the techs implemented in this mod stem from Civ4 (hunting / fishing / mysticism) and from Civ4 BtS Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn mod[anewdawn.sourceforge.net]. The latter was also the source of ideas behind some of the new buildings found in this mod.

Reason 1: Balancing early resource access

Though resources are guaranteed around a capital, early access to them is not, particularly regarding sea resources as well as land resources like bison, deer, ivory and furs. This is because sailing and trapping are expensive to research very early game. This creates an imbalance as capitals that have wheat / cattle / sheep get an unfair advantage early game vs capitals that spawn next to sea resources or land resources like deer / bison. This mod aims to re-balance that and leans on Civ4's initial tech tree design to achieve this.

Reason 2: Historical Accuracy

Historically there is no realistic reason why acquiring fish, bison or deer should be so much harder than irrigating land or herding sheep or cattle. After all people were hunter-gatherers long before they developed proper agriculture.

Reason 3: Adding more depth to the ancient era

The monument was available right off the bat and having the shrine building available with pottery seemed nonsensical. Also there just seemed to be too few techs before one would wonder rush the great library / stonehenge. This mod opens up new tech research priority strategies.

AI Free Techs Difficulty Adjustments

All free techs for AI are removed in this modmod.

SPECIAL THANKS

This mod would not have been possible without the following contributors:

Also special thanks to LeeS whose resource-in-vicinity lua code came in great use.

Right, i see platinum at begining, but i need technology to see lead and iron, also military theory is a empty tech.

With this mod I see a broken tech screen: Fishing occurs twice, Trapping and Animal Husbandry overlap each other, etc. Mod not compatible with VP 3.6.2 ?

Why bronze working contains iron?

Pottery is not directly connected with agriculture, because it depends on clay, not food.
Pottery was invented much earlier than agriculture in real life

@Snowduck

Done. Scout is set to optics (as in vanilla VP) and pathfinder to hunting.
Snowduck 24 Dec, 2017 @ 1:08am
Well maybe you could put scout on tech tree later and just make the pathfinder the first explorer unit

@inahut / Potatos

Thanks for the feedback - feel free to make suggestions on how you feel it could be improved. I was also very disappointed with Civ VI - I bought the deluxe edition when it came out and felt like a beta tester and was forced to shelve it. I am also grateful for the modding community; am glad I was able to contribute in my own way.

@Snowduck

The pathfinder and scout being both available at the same time (for now) is on purpose as I could not figure out where to put the pathfinder. Would have have a suggestion as to where to relocate it? I am definitely open for suggestions.
