No there is no self-destruct.
I'm usually not too fond at putting self destruct sequences in ships for I could use that space for more important equipment.
I am unsure why you are having this kind of problem. I'm going to assume there is a bug with SE once agian.

Oh, have you thought about a second set of merge blocks? i was thinking about using this set but being able to land i on a larger carrier/support ship. maybe something on the dropship that could rotate and extend to merge/dock with the carrier. i might tinker with it.
thinking of making a shaft miner rover that coupld be incorporated also. but this set is so well done, i dont want to mess it up. lol
I would recommend checking your controls to see what key you’re down control are if yours isn’t C.
