Hadrian's Campaign Fog: Imperator Augustus | Better Lighting & Seasonal VFX

Description
As featured/demonstrated in CAMILLUS by Hadrian

THIS MOD IS...
* FOR THE IMPERATOR AUGUSTUS CAMPAIGN ONLY.
* GRAND CAMPAIGN, EMPIRE DIVIDED, & RISE OF THE REPUBLIC VERSIONS AVAILABLE FOR SEPARATE DOWNLOAD. (See Future Updates for plans regarding other campaigns)
* COMPATIBLE WITH ALL MODS WHICH DO NOT MODIFY CAMPAIGN TERRAIN LIGHTING.
* COMPATIBLE WITH ALL CULTURE PACKS.
* SAVE-GAME COMPATIBLE.

— WHY SPLIT THE MOD UP?

It's not something I wanted to do, but current issues with the launcher & large mod updates left me no choice. This is the best way to maintain user-friendly, launcher/workshop-based versions of the mods for everyone.

Once I'd included the Grand, Rise of the Republic, & Imperator Augustus campaigns in one mod file and attempted to update it (the v0.7 update), the original mod (which will be made private) broke during attempts to update the thumbnail & core data files. And when I say it broke... I mean beyond all hope.

Ergo, each campaign's mod will be made available separately for the purposes of conserving size. You can have all of my Campaign Fog mods running at one time with no problem.

— CAMPAIGN FOG OVERVIEW

This is a campaign fog & lighting mod for Total War: Rome II. The mod does the following:
  • Significantly reduces ambient campaign fog (allowing clear, crisp views into more distant lands when explored)
  • Brightens ambient campaign fog (fog is brighter and less gray than vanilla Rome II)
  • Improves seasonal lighting vibrance and dynamic contrast to increase overall visual appearance
Vanilla Rome II employs a suffocating set of rules for ambient campaign fog, leading to playthroughs in which an ugly gray mist hovers over even explored terrain, especially at a distance. The game uses a lifeless shade of gray for its campaign fog and a somewhat desaturated palette overall.

The changes this mod makes are subtle, but impactful improvements to both the ambient fog rendering rules and the post-processing + HDR specifications for each season.

See screenshots for comparisons (yes, that's how gray and washed out the vanilla game looks with the two side by side).

Screenshots taken / Camillus campaign gameplay recorded with 24 / 12 in-game Gamma / Brightness settings.

— FUTURE UPDATES

Plans for versions beyond 0.7 (the current workshop files are the second version released) are to listen to community feedback and polish off fog / lighting improvements on existing campaign maps, as well as to bring fog / lighting changes to all Rome II campaigns prior to v1.0.

Additionally, coming versions may experiment with allowing the fog to encroach a little closer (while still leaving a wide-radius area under the camera that isn't fogged up), so that terrain pop-in is less noticeable.

Look forward to your future work on the mod! And as I play around more with it I'll pass along my comments. Overall though you are defintely on the right track!

No, thank you! I agree with you, and the next version is going to take steps to address this. I am still trying to work the balance of the autumn colors in particular... there are also areas of the map (southern red sea) where the HDR / whites do REALLY odd things. Work is ongoing, so any and all constructive feedback is hugely helpful.

I'm using this with DEI. Thank you for taking the time to put this together! My only criticism is that it can look at times is a bit "overdriven/over-saturated". I know this might just be personal preference, but I did want to at least give some feedback. :)

hh...i play another battle...and there i see blood... i dont understand...

Also, as an aside, my mod's filename comes earlier in the alphabet than the blood mod, so it loads first; it would therefore have priority even if there was a conflict ... just trying to provide you all info I can

Thanks for that. I just checked the .pack file that the workshop downloads automatically as well as the one the mod author asks you to download (for the movies). This blood mod doesn't touch any of the files (or even directories) that campaign map lighting / fog changes touch.

So, I'm not sure what's causing your problem, but it isn't the campaign fog mod. Sorry!

Can you link me to the blood mod you use? Want to see what's conflicting.
