Mmm.... S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S!
S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S, like you would expect are SAVTec Atmospheric Utility, Survey And General Exploration Sausages... err... ships.
Small-grid, remotely operated drilling machines designed for use on planets with atmosphere.

S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S are powered by 4 Hydrogen Engines, 6 Large Batteries and 20 Small Batteries. They also have a pair of Solar Panels for emergency charging / limp-home and on-the-fly power augmentation.
Additionally they carry their own Hydrogen Tank, as well as a pair of O2/H2 Generators, so you can refuel as you go.

How long will my S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S last?
In (taste) testing, S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S never last as long as we'd like. SAVTec S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S however are designed to last as long as possible.
With all 4 Hydrogen Engines running, 1 full Hydrogen Tank (plus the engines' onboard tanks) will last 10 solid minutes.
Run only 1 engine at a time however and that time quadruples to 40 minutes... with no additional ice carried!
And that's just the engines!
The batteries alone will give the ship a flight time in excess of 30 minutes, even while manouvering and with the drills running! Augmented with 1 or more engine/s at a time and that flight time can easily double.

So don't rush to use up your S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S... they'll last more than long enough!

Toad in the hole anyone?
As you can see from the screenshots, S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S are at their most excellent when poking into and out of holes. They can drill vertically when empty and at angles up to approx -40° pitch with a full payload (total mass 170.5 Tons) without loosing altitude.

S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S are also highly manoeuvrable and can perform inverted acrobatic stunts, even though they don't have any thrusters on their dorsal plane. Don't spend too long upside down however, or S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S will start falling from the sky & potentially land on you!

Help! My S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S are green!
Unlike normal S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S, SAVTec S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S are green. Yes, green.
Don't worry, it's perfectly normal and they're still safe for use. You wont get Salmonella or anything.
All my Hydrogen powered vehicles are green now!

What's in my S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S?
The discerning connoisseur of excellent S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S will note that SAVTec S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S have some rather distinctive features. Namely...
  • 4x Hydrogen Engine
  • 1x Hydrogen Tank
  • 2x O2/H2 Generator
  • 6x Large Batteries
  • 20x Small Batteries
  • 2x Solar Panel
  • 1x Large Cargo Container
  • Antenna & Remote Control
  • Ore Detector
  • Forward spotlights
  • Ventral Connector
  • Dorsal Collector (for an extra refuelling option)
  • 6x Ventral Ejectors connected to 2x Conveyor Sorters (by default set up to sort & eject Stone)
  • 2x Ventral Merge Blocks (for docking & also for contruction of the S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S
  • 2x Forward Camera (Port & Starboard)
  • 4x Ventral Camera (2x Port, 2x Starboard for lining up the Merge Blocks when docking)
  • Handy control panels on either side

S.A.U.S.A.G.E ejection
Contrary to what you might think, the S.A.U.S.A.G.E ejectors don't actually eject S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S... instead they eject cargo. There are 6 of them hooked up to a pair of S.A.U.S.A.G.E sorters, which by default are set to sort Stone and not S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S. You can of course set them to filter anything you like. If you want to keep the stone, just turn off the control panel group "Sausage Ejection" and the sorters will cease pulling cargo.

Other S.A.U.S.A.G.E.Y goodness
You'll notice that I've not set up a hotbar for the remote control. This is because in my experience, remote hotbars can sometimes wipe themselves for no apparent reason, especially when a ship is built from a projection.
I have however named, grouped & hidden as appropriate all of the things in the control panel. It's really neat & tidy and you'll have no problem finding the right controls or setting up your hotbar. You may even have a laugh while reading through the list. Lots of yummy sausages in there! Mmm!

What do S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S go well with?
S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S are the perfect accompaniment to pretty much anything.
The bare minimum requirement for docking to your base or vehicle is a connector facing upward.
My S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S can be built & docked on the same platform as comes with the
SAVTec S.L.U.T.S and SAVTec P.I.S.S.A.R.S.E

No landing / construction pad is currently included with S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S, however, as I'll soon be releasing a new ground base module that's compatible with my "Trucking Hell" Freight Yard

S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S will also have it's very own heavy wheeled carrier vehicle very soon.

Make your own S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S!
To construct the best S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S, SAVTec recommends you build a rotor somewhere on your base, then add a small head to it and on top of that, a projector and a Merge Block. You can then weld your S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S directly onto the merge block, so nothing needs to be cut away when it's time for lunch launch.

Must I refrigerate my S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S to keep them from going bad?
Hell no!
Are you crazy?!
S.A.U.S.A.G.E.S should always be used immediately, post haste and with extreme prejudice! They should never ever be stored for later!

Boring stats (Urgh!)
Mass (U/L): 79,033Kg (79 Tons)
Ice capacity in O2/H2 Generators & Collector: 9,662.16Kg (9.7 Tons)
Payload capacity in Cargo Container, Drills & Connector: 81,829.72Kg (81.8 Tons)
Total mass with full payload + Full Ice reserve + Full Hydrogen Tanks: 170,524.88Kg (170.5 Tons)
Flight time (All 4 Hydrogen Engines + Batteries + Solar: Full Hydrogen Tank, no additonal ice): Over 1 hour
Range: Further than most people have the patience to fly
Boring stat rating: Really, REALLY boring.
Overall sausage rating: Legendary

Go now my son and drill stuff with your S.A.U.S.A.G.E!

Feedback me sausages
Comments / questions / suggestions / constructive criticism / sausages all very welcome.
I've even been known to do the odd request-build from time to time, so if you have an idea, drop me a sausage. If I like it I may build it.

If you sausage this sausage & want to sausage more, please sausage out my sausage pages

Your ***T Rocks ! Especially amusing are the operational descriptions.

Oh, and there was a battery missing just above the ejectors on one side for some reason. It only had 5. Now it has 6 as intended.
cptsavarus  [author] 23 Mar, 2019 @ 4:53pm
It's ok, I found it. The BP is updated & should work correctly now. I've had several reports of updates not downloading for people lately so you may need to un-sub & re-sub to get the updated version.

The conveyor junction is the right way round.
The problem was that below the ejectors, there was a conveyor elbow tube going to nowhere. It was supposed to join the small ports on the side of the ventral connector & that's where the ejectors are fed from but I remember now that I moved the connector down 1 block at the last minute. Must have just forgotten to extend the conveyor tube to match.

Save a copy of the old version, then when you get the updated version you'll be able to see the difference.

Apologies for that. A silly oversight on my part.

@cptsavarus Okay, I think I've fixed it... here's a quick imgur post to show what was wrong and how I fixed it. I'll rebuild the rest and test it, but this should work.
Lizann 23 Mar, 2019 @ 4:27pm
@cptsavarus No worries... looks like my earlier assessment was incomplete; you still need to flip the conveyor junction to expose the three small ports to the sides of the vehicle, but when you do that... it short circuits the ejectors directly to the conveyor and causes them to spit out everything in the hold. From the looks of it, there's a conveyor that runs from the conveyor frame and that's supposed to connect through an L-Bend up to the sorter... mine is showing yellow. I think it can be re-routed, but I've had to tear up the mid-section. Once I get it working, I'll send you some screenshots before I button it back up.

@Lizann... Sorry about that and thanks very much for the report. Much appreciated!
Will get that fixed & update the BP.
I've been having problems with my RMB, which can't decide if it's broken or not & sometimes deletes 2 blocks at once, so I think this may have happened while I was painting the ship for the workshop & I accidentally shoved the block back in the wrong way round. I do remember swearing loudly several times while painting this one!

Glad you figured it out & got it sorted anyhow - and glad you're enjoying your scrumptious Sausage!

@cptsavarus Just built my first Sausage... it's delicious! I found that the ejectors were not working properly, so I ate through the middle of my sausage and found that the conveyor junction between the H2 tanks was in the wrong way. I set it so that the small connectors line up with the conveyor line for the sorters and ejectors and BAM... my sausage was shooting ice like a pro!

Not sure what happened here, but you may want to check the blueprint and post an update. Cheers and thanks for all the meat!
