Description
The Muthos Engineering Consortium is proud to introduce the 'Consobrina' torpedo corvette!

Something of a hybrid between the 'Maculata' torpedo frigate and 'Arenaria' corvette, the 'Consobrina' packs three forward torpedo launchers in addition to its defensive weapons. Despite its size, it can hold up to 75 torpedoes in reserve. Its torpedo capabilities give the 'Consobrina' extreme range, allowing it to participate in capital ship battles directly without getting instantly vaporized. A single 'Consobrina' can serve as a light escort and fire support vessel, a small squadron can form a formidable artillery barrage for a fraction of the cost of a full 'Maculata' formation.

Pros:
-Very low cost and crew requirements
-Good maneuverability
-Decent base hyperspace range (6 sectors)
-Large torpedo storage bays for its size
-A few armored internal frameworks for further upgrades
-Firepower can be scaled up by using better torpedoes

Cons:
-Fully arming the ship with torpedoes can be expensive
-No cargo bay by default
-Somewhat fragile

Armament:
-3x forward torpedo launchers
-1x size 1.5 main weapon hardpoint
-3x size 1 point defense turrets

(Detailed stats and costs are available in the screenshots)

By default, the 'Consobrina' comes equipped with VT-3 and VPD-1 custom turrets. If you'd like to use other MEC turrets with it, check out the MEC Signature Collection!

I don't know how useful a 4-slot Xanion-tier torpedo ship will end up being, but this was certainly fun to make. Like the 'Maculata,' it has ivory stripes and detailing, both to designate it as a torpedo vessel and to pay homage to its namesake. The ship is named for the blackjacket wasp, Vespula consobrina - which is sometimes mistaken for a bald-faced hornet due to overlapping habitats and similar coloration.
