More Consistent Damage [WOTC]

Description
Weapons lose -25% of their Damage, but gain +25% Aim.

Don't like it when your soldiers miss their shots? This mod is for you! This mod is an alternative to Dani's mod "Reliable Damage" (which was never updated for WOTC).

The main idea is, normally soldiers will take shots that deal full damage - but that's only if they hit... instead, this mod makes shots hit more often but deal reduced damage, for more consistency in total damage output. In most situations, it is better to hit for less damage, than to not hit at all.

--- Example ---
In the base game, let's say a soldier takes 4 shots at 75% Aim that deal 5 damage each.
Probably 3 of those shots will hit, for a total of 15 damage.
But if only 2 shots hit, you have 10 damage.
Or if all 4 shots hit, you have 20 damage.
This means you have a "damage range" of 10-20 damage randomly.

Now with this mod, the same soldier takes 4 shots at 100% (which is 75% + 25%) that deal 3.75 damage each (which is 5 damage reduced -25%), results in 15 damage. (the probability average)

Decimals above a whole number are handled as a percent chance to inflict 1 more damage. For example, a shot that deals 3.75 damage will deal 3 damage, with a 75% chance to deal 1 more damage. (for a total of 4 damage)

---- Affected Weapons ----
Although there are DLC and mod weapons here, you do not need those DLCs to use the mod.
- Assault Rifles
- LMGs
- Shotguns
- Sniper Rifles
- Pistols
- Chosen Weapons (only the ones that XCOM gets after killing a Chosen - not used by enemies)
- Pathfinder Hunter Rifles (already had a +10% aim bonus, so the total bonus is now +35%)
- Bolt Caster (already had +15% + 25% = total of 40% now)
- Shadowkeeper (already had +10% + 25% = total of 35% now)
- SPARK Rifles
- All weapons from the Resistance Firearms mod

---- Weapons NOT affected ----
Vektor Rifles -- bugged in the base game, it is not possible to edit these weapons
Bullpups -- bugged in the base game, it is not possible to edit these weapons
Autopistol -- bugged in the base game, it is not possible to edit these weapons
Melee weapons -- deliberately excluded, because the chance to hit is already high

100% safe to enable or disable at any time. May not work with other mods that modify weapon accuracy or damage for the items listed above. Synergizes well with Overwatch Lost Headshots.

For a similar mod, but for enemy melee attacks, check out Enemy Melee Adjustment.

Variation suggestion: XCOM default weapons are big bulky guns that have a noticable size difference from the resistance firearms. Therefore, going with the lighter and smaller weapons grants better aim but hit light, while the bigger guns have bigger damage output, at the cost of aiming ability. Gives some very interesting strategic depth, Canonically makes sense because recruits would be given the old world surplus rifles that are easy to hit with, while trained XCOM can use the heavy weapons designed to defeat alien armor.

Appreciate the extra effort, thanks.

I just looked at the mod files for Resistance Firearms. The mod author created their own data stat tables for those weapons, so I will be updating this mod to include those. You can subscribe for now and you will see the updates in your game later.

Not sure -- if that mod uses the base-game weapon charts for weapon stats, then yes it will automatically work. But if the mod author created new weapon charts specifically for those weapons, then no, it will not affect them - but I will make a note and check to see how they are set up. If they have their own charts, I'll include them in this mod.

Does this mod apply to weapon mods like Resistance Firearms?

Oh, I personally know nothing about XCOM 2 modding besides how to edit configs! :) But you're welcome, hopefully Iridar can help. I just know about it because I've got his mod tweaking autopistol damage and another mod tweaking regular pistol damage, as I thought they weren't quite 'punchy' enough to make Gunslinger builds viable.

Thanks for the info. I will check and see if I can do that then. If you ever manage to figure out a way to edit the other weapons, would you let me know?

Interesting idea! Iridar's Autopistol Overhaul mod allows editing of autopistol damage and aim values via config, so presumably it's possible, maybe you could ask him how to do it?

Only XCOM weapons.
