Iridium Aerospace is the aerospace manufacturing arm of the Republic of Valfross, and is a household name the world over.
                                                                                                                                                
It was formed in what only two days hence had been Valfross' last holdout - the city of Fregata, a manufacturing center on the edge of the Silent Plain. Having faced down certain destruction and come out the other side, the last defenders of Valfross now had to start thinking of the future - and part of that was consolidating what was left of the manufacturing capability in the city. Their first products were the (by now) legendary Adiantum fighters; as the war ran its course they also developed the more advanced Sanka-B and Someaka fighters, as well as several ground vehicles.

They continue to produce aircraft (and still do); these days, though, their focus is more on rocketry and spacecraft.

The Polar War

Tolbrynd's rate of modernisation was incredible; within a year, they had advanced from horse and cart to powered flight and more besides. The reason, of course, was the Empire, which had swept in from space, crushed Ipsilon with frightening speed, and was now slowly expanding out across the continent of Tolbrynd. Salvage of wrecks, capture of vehicles, and observation of the Empire's industrial processes propelled their meteoric rise. And yet, it would never be enough to face the space-faring Empire on equal footing before its slow, implacable advance crushed them.

And thus, Tolbrynd needed to invade another continent to ensure their survival. Krolmar was a barren wasteland, scarce in resources and slowly withering away now that Ipsilon was no longer there to supply them. Valfross was a icy, cragged affair, with formidable natural defenses, but with plenty of natural resources.

Figuring that Valfross' natural defenses precluded any sort of serious military, Tolbrynd fell upon them with great vengeance and furious anger. Avoiding the jagged coast and unforgiving terrain, they approached from the sky, launching craft of all kinds from carriers off the coast. And yet, the rulers of Valfross were no fools; they had seen the sacking of Ipsilon, seen the plight of Tolbrynd, and plowed extraordinary effort into modernisation. It was enough to cause Tolbrynd a great deal of trouble, but without the experience and opportunities which came with living on the Empire's border, their efforts were not enough to slow Tolbrynd's advance. After some months, the flag of Tolbrynd was raised over the Jotunn Plateau, and formal surrender given. Only a few holdouts remained.

One of those holdouts was Valfross' main manufacturing site, on the edge of the Silent Plain and backed by the mines in the Ordyce Range. Even as they were ordered to surrender, they continued to innovate, reverse-engineer, defend - and eventually fight back on equal footing (though it was a close thing!).

Slowly, gradually, they pushed Tolbrynd's forces off of the Silent Plain, out of the midland ranges, and off of the highland plateaus. Eventually, faced with the prospect of being driven into the lowlands and obliterated by the weather, the remnants of Tolbrynd's once-mighty invasion force surrendered. With most of its military unavailable, Tolbrynd was thus forced to enter peace negotiations (which ended up more favourable to them than many believed they deserved).
