S.S. Carl Sagan - Interplanetary Colonial Vessel



The Cosmoliner constructed exploration ship the S.S. Carl Sagan is designed for a single purpose, travel across the solar system and deliver modules required to jump start a planetary colony. It’s lightweight construction allows it to maximize it’s 4 jump drives to deliver all the necessary materials to jumpstart a distance outpost.





It features two distinct pressurized modules, a bottom command module with amenities for the crew and passengers, and an upper science module with medical & production equipment.



In the center it features a pressurized hangar bay with a small tug vessel for moving modules around the ship, with a miner and welder ship latched to the outside of the science module.

A large boom extends forward holding 4 of the 6 onboard modules, with the far end supporting automated solar panels and the retro thruster. Ship has onboard turrets for defending against drone attacks, but definitely don’t take this ship into combat!

Featuring the C-835 Carryall Dropship mounted to the extended boom, this transport is designed for lifting mission modules back and forth from the planet’s surface. It utilizes whiplash141’s excellent subgrid thruster control script to enable it to vector it’s 4 thrust modules, allowing it to carry an incredible 5.8kilotons of material from the earth’s surface into space.

The transport has its own single jump drive, and amenities for 3 crew members allowing it to also undertake long interplanetary voyages. This ship has been designed specifically to allow you to spawn it in without DLC blocks (only a cosmetic armory and cargo block)



It features a full multi crew Glass cockpit with all the information required to safely operate, it can also be stowed away to allow clear view out of the front of the flight deck.

Just remember to keep your thrusters deactivated when not in flight, as they are thirsty and will drain your fuel while just idle!

MISSION MODULES

Pathfinder Module



This module is specially designed as the first ground asset to be dropped onto a planet, allowing for a single crewmember or laser remote operator to local a suitable landing site for the full colony.

This module has everything required for 7 colonists to safely live and work on the most in hospital planetary environments.

Surface Vehicle Garage



Surface operations put tons of wear and tear on vehicles and ships, use this garage module to build vehicles and to maintenance on them in a comfortable pressurized environment.

Cargo Module



Once you have a huge haul of rare ores and minerals, load up this cargo container and using the C-835 Carryall lift this back into space either for supplying orbital ships or trading with far away planets.

Hydrogen Fuel Module



Thirsty ships need lots of hydrogen! Use this module as an ice processing fuel depot to keep everything well supplied. You can also use this to ferry from the plentiful ice deposits on a planet's surface back into space to fuel large starships.

COLONY BUILDING TIPS:
  • For a permanent base, build station merge blocks directly onto the planet's surface and lower the modules onto them so they can be fixed in place, then connect them at the base so multiple modules can share power and conveyor systems. Remember only static grids can use wind farms!
  • Always power down unused modules and switch their batteries to recharge if they are independent to save power while you build a more renewable power supply.
  • If you are planning to drop all the modules before you get everything up and running, consider dropping the hydrogen tanks early so you have a planet side fuel dump ready to go.

CARRYALL OPERATION TIPS:

/!\ Surface to Orbit Manual at max weight: Use Tilt Rotor Timer block to switch modes. Reset Dampener after switch to re-calibrate. Do not exceed max total weight if trying to ascend to Orbit. Do not ascend with less than 85% fuel. Pitch up while transitioning from hover and keep large engines facing downward at all times when at max weight. With balanced thrust usage you can reach space with at least 25% hydrogen left. Second tab has thrust override for rear fixed thrusters to adjust throttle in ascent

General Operation Tips: When in hover, pitch and roll gently to get better lateral movement when heavy. Disable large thrusters when in space and when without heavy load. Use remote block and camera to steer and align module docking connectors. Make sure loads are balanced and not heavier on one side. Deploy parachutes if landing heavy. Idling Hydrogen thrusters drain fuel & ice.

Found out that the command module conveyor was connected with a sorter by mistake (scroll wheel while building) Now fixed

hopefully the airdragon dropship I added made that challenge easier! When I did it before I ended up running out of hydrogen after a few round trips. Now my technique is to drop the hydrogen tank after the rover and refuel the dropship on every trip to the surface.

Added the air dragon to this blueprint too! now mounted below the original dropship!

Also added an airlock to the main bridge so you can get to space faster!
