And I agree, hydrogen would make sense IMO. Maybe not so much as a chemical fuel, but definitely if used in fusion reactors. That would have pretty high energy density, and might explain its price too...
I think it makes sense to use raw hydrogen after cells, but before containers, since it falls inbetween money-wise, that would be up to you though, since its price / MW would be whatever you assign it.
i realized that hydrogen is actually pretty expensive ingame compared to other space games, which treat hydrogen more realistically. IE: cheap and abundant
i am not super concerned with the size of the generator since I am imagining that fusion energy is easy and cheap in this universe. and that is what the generator blocks are.
If alongside, it is necessary to think over in which "slot" because for now it is Energy Containers, then cells and finally money.
TBH i am unsure if hydrogen would have energy density large enough to warrant its use as it would require "burn chambers" and turbines or thermoelectric cells large enough to provide electricity at quite large rates (somehow my brain attaches real physics here)
Try this, it is quick-and-dirty all notifications removed version.

Unless there is some incompat with either your save or another mod or DLC (I don't own any so can't test this and thus won't support it), then it should work fine
