Strategic AI Mod

Description
For use with the Shogun, RotS, and FotS campaigns.

This mod is intended to increase difficulty in a minimalistic way by adjusting the AI behavior in how it builds and creates armies.

***Note that this is the same mod as my "Strategic AI+Tech Mod", but without the changes to the technology.***

(IMPORTANT: You should be able to use this with any other mod)

Changes:

<Campaign AI related>

The following campaign AI changes are straight forward and were made in the interest of keeping the adjustments minimal but effective. **Disclaimer: this mod in no way claims to make the AI "smart", the goal is to make them "less stupid".**

*AI BUILDING PRIORITIES:

The AI has been adjusted to more intelligently prioritize its building on the campaign map rather than to be evenly divided in priority as it is in the base game. The AI will now prioritize military (so that it can be better armies, rather than ashigaru hordes) and economy (so it can build bigger armies, and non-military and non-economic improvements later).

*AI ARMY RECRUITMENT PRIORITIES:

The AI has been adjusted to be more intelligent in how it recruits and composes its armies, so that there is a higher proportion of melee troops and a more realistic proprtion of ranged, cavalry and artillery units.This helps provide better battles, rather than those frequent battles of armies consisting of ~50% ranged units.

Thanks for the answer, I'll give it a go and see what happens.

Hmm, probably not, but you could try it and see how it plays together.

The only way you would know is by playing without the other mods. There could be some conflicts. All I know is, when I play RotS on highest difficulty, using this mod, it is tough as hell.

Tried a campaign as Sendai and triggered Realm Divide once every provinces East of Kyoto were made shogunal. My allies which were shielded by me still managed to do extremely bad and lost their provinces to naval invasions from Saga.

From the AI's perspective it was like "I have 3 provinces to take care of while being surrounded by allies everywhere and I managed to loose them to naval invasions from clans coming from the other side of the map".

Now I don't know if the mod was working correctly. I had several mods running and some of them were not working.

Hello, I really enjoy your mod, i found an issue witht he ikko ikki AI, I'm not entirely sure if it's because of this mod, but this is the only mod that alters gameplay mechanics for me, the rest are graphic. So what happens is that Ikko ikki will keep spamming clan specialty bow ronnin, having full stacks of them combined with 2-3 bow ashigaru

The difficulty is insane and it perfectly matches with allies diplomacy mod. Great work!

@Volcano

Thanks for the advice- I really ought to look at rots but for now I'm focused on FOTS. It's a shame there's no way to balance that ought- I've determined that the only way to ensure a true legendary difficulty for FOTS as the shogunate is if the Tsu clan lives (otherwise the centre goes to the shogun). I imagine it's Yodo for the imperial clans, but they do flip

No, unfortunately not. The AI uses all the same rules, regardless of faction. So if it is some Shogunate factions doing well, it would be because they happen to be more powerful (the RotS campaign is not necessarily balanced very well).

You could try the version of this mod that slows down tech research rates, which might suppress a lot of it early on:

...or just try turning the difficulty down. Certainly, if I recall, playing the Aizu in ROTS is one of the most difficult factions to win with, though.
