HBO Total Conversion

Description
Ave! And welcome to HBO Total Conversion, a true Roman reskin for true Romans that tweaks the looks of various units to match their appearance in HBO's "Rome."

For obvious reasons, this is best used with the Caesar in Gaul or Imperator Augustus campaigns, but the reskins will apply to any campaign where these units are available.

Hope you enjoy it, and remember to give a thumbs up above to help other people see it!

The Cleanup Update - 02/28/2022
Hi all - after a long hiatus, I went through and made a bunch of edits to reskin additional units, update/swap out some meshes and textures, and remove some unused files. This is likely the final update. Changes include:
  • New reskins added for Legatus, Praetorians, Praetorian Guards, Praetorian Cavalry, cavalry officers, and non-centurion Roman officers (the ones in charge of units like leves, artillery crews, etc.)
  • Brand new meshes for the standards carried by all Roman units, including a new custom standard for the Praetorian Guard.
  • Added in special level 10 appearances for all of the triumvirs, if you use AAA Romans.
  • Reskinned Caesar so he wears long sleeves like in his unused vanilla appearance - it gets cold up in Gaul!
  • Fixed a bug where the triumvirs wouldn't hold their spears correctly, and where the Eagle Cohort unit was missing from custom battles.
  • Various minor re-skin tweaks, deleting unused files, etc.
The AAA Update - 09/14/2021
This mod is now compatible with Benjin's superb AAA Romans mod! Now, as your faction leaders gain experience in battle, you'll see their appearances change on the campaign and battle maps. Generally, the progression will be:
  • Level 1: base outfit, with no helmet, cloak, or unique weapon.
  • Level 3: your general now wears a fine cloak
  • Level 5: your general wears their distinctive helmet
  • Level 7: your general swaps out their generic sword/shield with finer ones unique to them
  • Level 10: special appearance for Caesar, Cleopatra, and Octavian
Out of personal preference, your faction leaders will not age—their physical appearance will remain the same, regardless of how old they are. Likewise, their appearance as politicians remains unchanged from the original version of this mod. If you don't have AAA enabled, none of this applies, and the faction leaders' appearances will stay as listed in the earlier mod description below. Enjoy!

The Vorenus & Pullo Update - 08/30/2021
At long last, Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo make their triumphant entry to this mod, along with some other updates.
  • Vorenus and Pullo have been added as officers to the First Cohort and Eagle Cohort units. I chose to do it this way because this a reskin mod, not a gameplay-changing mod. On the battlefield, you'll see the duo leading their troops from the front. Since they are officers, they can be killed, but will show up again once the unit replenishes.
  • Roman standards have been replaced with square versions like the ones seen in the show (and in real life). Now, your troops will march under the banners of real-life units that served in the Gallic Wars and beyond: Legio III Gallica, Legio VI Ferrata, Legio X Equestris, and (of course!) Legio XIII Gemina. Potentially will add in some more in future updates.
  • A new Roman tunic has been added, featuring the eagle insignia seen throughout the show when troops are out of armor. You can see the new tunics on leves, Vigiles, Rorarii, and war dog handlers.
  • The First Cohort and standard-bearer units have been slightly reskinned to take advantage of new assets added in this update.

Legendary Lords
  • Julius Caesar, Marc Antony, Gaius Octavian, Marcus Lepidus, Sextus Pompey, and Cleopatra VII have each been reskinned to look closer to the actors who played them in "Rome." In the case of Pompey, Sextus doesn't appear in the show (instead, they have a fictional "Quintus Pompey") so I based his appearance off of his portraiture.
  • Octavian, playing up his role as Caesar's adopted son and heir, inherits Caesar's sword and shield, while the other triumvirs each march into battle with their own unique sword and shield designs. Pompey, as befits Neptune's Scourge, fights with a trident when mounted.
  • Though Macedonian by blood, Cleopatra is very proud of Egyptian culture and wears the blue war crown into battle, like a Pharaoh of old.
  • Caesar and Octavian, being political figures, go about the campaign map bareheaded, but wear their unique helmets on the battlefield.
  • Each lord also has a slightly different appearance if they're removed from command and go back to being politicians.

Reskinned Units
  • Legionaries: each equipped with their distinctive bronze helmet, lorica hamata, a pair of short trousers, and a unique shield pattern modeled off of their TV appearance.
  • Veteran Legionaries: in addition to having better-quality mail armor than the rank-and-file, veterans wear a soldier's cloak in their primary or secondary faction color and display a unique shield pattern.
  • First Cohort: we don't see an equivalent onscreen, but here, the brave men of the First Cohort augment their armor with bronze greaves, bracers, and a heavy bronze helmet.
  • Legionary Cohort: we don't see the evolution to imperial-era troops in the show, so I've made them have a hybrid appearance. Half wear the classic lorica segmentata, half wear a high-quality lorica hamata, and helmets are evenly split between the First Cohort's helmet and the new Gallic style.
  • Legionary Cavalry: like their infantry brethren, cavalry squadrons wear mail shirts, cloaks, and a different style of bronze helmet, and carry a unique oval shield.
  • Artillery Crews: equipped just like their colleagues, but with a toolkit and light bracers.
  • Standard Bearers: given the same HBO-style helmets and armor to match the rest of their unit.
  • Marian & Imperial Centurions: modeled after the armor Lucius Vorenus wears at different points in the series, with some variation in helmet crests, phalerae, and tunic/shield colors.
Credits
Thanks to Kaziel for the meshes/textures used for the legionaries' armor and Pompey's shield. Additional shield textures and the HBO-style helmets are adapted from the assets in Celticus and Benjin's Extravaganza modder's resource. A huge thank you to olekristianhomelien for his AssetEditor[github.com] which I used extensively for the most recent update.

@duckymcpogy the visual bug happens when the unit is walking, so just make sure they run everywhere lol. In all seriousness: it's a bug that only CA can fix, and the alternative is removing the eagle standard-bearer and replacing him with Pullo, which I don't want to do (the eagle is important both historically and in the context of the show).

I know bro !, the thing is, ... when legionnaires look that good i rarely upgrade them to cohort legionnaires and the same goes to praetorians. I guess i like Marian legionnaires than the imperial ones after researching professional soldiers. No worries bro was just a suggestion, all good man.

HBO's Rome, is one of, if not the greatest thing ever put to film in the history of cinematography,
