Factorial Range Firefights

Description
"factorial (adj.): of, relating to, or being a factor" (Merriam-Webster)

"Ah look, a horde of tribesmen. Better we see the whites of their eyes first then fire only 2 rounds off before getting mauled to death. Longer range accuracy is almost never used for most guns, since they are less than 40 tiles range. This mod will turn your skirmishes into wider field battles, requiring greater zoom-outs."

Rimworld combat is not balanced with 100-tile range combat. This setting is adjustable.

Place below any mods adding ranged weapons.

Features
  • Weapons (grenades) not defined as long-ranged have their own range modifier (default 1x, adjustable)
  • All ranged weapons of greater than 60 have 2x range (setting adjustable)
  • All ranged weapons of greater than 24.5 range have 2x range (setting adjustable)
  • All ranged weapons of less than 24.5 range have 2x range (setting adjustable)

Compatibility
Compatible
  • Combat Extended—should work mostly fine as long as grenades are all of the Grenades weaponClass. Any grenade that doesn't will be counted as a gun.

Rangefinder note:
Due to some limitation in RimWorld, ranges above a certain limit do not display. This happens for all "ghost circle" generations, not just this mod or Rangefinder. Apparently using Vanilla Extended Framework fixes this. Neat.

This mod is a continuation/"fork" of Long Range Firefights by ChickenBites84.
This mod differs by adding an option for a grenade modifier, adding a long-long range modifier, and makes it so ranges are multiplied instead of overridden. The Fog of War patch has been removed as this was deemed unnecessary.

Why is the text in the image sideways?
I made a shooting range to test if the mod actually worked but I made it face up-down, which proved to be bad for preview images. Therefore, I rotated and cropped it. The range is the sniper at 90 tiles.

Works perfectly fine to pretty much all long ranged weapons!

Hi, do you plan on updating this for 1.4?
Michiko 25 Oct, 2022 @ 1:06pm
After some initial testing, it appears to work just fine. I haven't tested too much though, so I can't verify if there's no issues whatsoever.

Anyone tried this for 1.4 yet?

One of the best mods out there.

Just checked, Vanilla Expanded Framework increases the circle generator max radius, so listing that as a recommended mod might make sense.

@Rooknight @Denneisk Yep, Rimworld's vanilla circle calculator maxes out at... I think it's 55 or so? I believe a certain mod bumps it up, because I think rangefinder works for my save with absurdly long range weapons, but I'm not actually sure which one it is. If I find out in testing for fixing a totally separate mod I'm working on poking at, I'll let you know.

Alright, thank you. I was just wondering about that. I also found out it doesn't work with the Great bow too.

@denneisk Maybe something (relatively, no idea how complex the code for this is) simple like modifying the thresholds for each range (eg short, med, long) in the context of accuracy to give it a boost instead of needing to do something far more complex and time consuming? Because while this is nice to be able to start shooting at a more reasonable distance, feels weird that anything past a certain range is pretty much impossible to hit due to the way its calculated
