Welcome to Wakashan Bay by DeaconPmp!
(NOT A SNOWFALL MAP)

Wakashan Bay is an adapted heightmap taken from the northwest side of Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada and this is my second map. I have tried to keep the feel of the area alive, but with an added twist I haven’t yet seen in Cities: Skylines… glaciers. Inspired by the snow melt in Stevensdomi’s “Spring Fjords” map, I have incorporated a portion of and the terminuses of three separate glaciers on this map.

The name “Wakashan” is a tribute to the indigenous people of this region and is the name of their native language family which is actually a collection of seven nearly-extinct (or already so) different languages (one of which is now extinct as the last speaker died in 2002), currently spoken by about 1200 people. Like the area it is from, build space is limited without terraforming, but there is space for a decent-sized city around the start square and a few communities to the west and south of the map.

Welcome to Wakashan Bay and I hope you enjoy the map!

Suggested Mods:
While not necessary, the 81-Tile Mod and the Tree Anarchy Mod are the best way to experience this map as, without it, only 1 of the three glacier terminuses is within the central 25 tiles and ¾ of the trees will not populate (over 1 million trees). This map is not for people who do not want detailed maps as part of their builds, but a quick way to save on your computer resources is to not have the Tree Anarchy mod, which will drastically reduce the number of trees available. Likewise, Intersection Marking Tool is not required, but without it, the intersections will be blank. Cubemap Replacer is a nice touch and how you will get the same feel as a lot of my screenshots, but the map works just fine without it. Traffic Manager: President Edition is also not required, but will make your map a little more traffic friendly. Ultimate Eye Candy and Relight will allow you to set the tone you think is appropriate for your map; my recommended settings are provided below and in the screenshots. The Daylight Classic Mod is a C:S essential and will make your city look better, so I also recommend this.

Theme:
This map was specifically designed for use with the Wakashan Bay Theme, but is perfectly playable without it. What you will really lose, however, is the snow on the glaciers. If that’s the case, I recommend using Theme Mixer 2, find a snow texture, and replace the “Sand” texture with it.

Screenshots: All screenshots were taken with the above settings, the RelightFilm LUT, Rural Landscape Cubemap, and Wakashan Bay Theme.

Special Thanks:
I’d like to take a moment to thank the following individuals/groups for their help on inspiring/creating this map:

BonBonB – Without his reviews, everything I’ve created would be so much sloppier; truly a pillar in the community. You can see his What Map review series here: https://www.youtube.com/c/BonBonB

BonBon Buddies on Discord – E6GSY, Carina, Julia H, Sidai, Ingenium, The Retired Mandalorian, Uncle Ron, Ginseng, Turtle the Builder, et al. (sorry if I’ve missed someone); you guys are the voices of reason, assistance, and inspiration for me and I can’t express enough how much I appreciate it.

StevensDomi – Your Spring Fjords map is the entire reason that this map exists. Your snow melt features blew my mind and made me want to really try doing glacial runoff. The map can be found here: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2557672821

Uncle Ron & Ginseng - Separate shout out to you two for playtesting/troubleshooting the map!

If you like the map, please rate it! It helps both the community and me! Thank you!

@WozzleProto thanks for checking out my map and leaving feedback! Sorry about the difficulty with the highways; it's sometimes really hard to realize a vision in a way that makes it less painful for others so I appreciate you taking the time, regardless to find a way to enjoy the map! I'm really glad you found that it provided some note of nostalgia! That, to me, is the best compliment you can give a map maker who has tried to be faithful to a location!

Checking out the map, It's awesome! You did a great job capturing the feel of the pacific northwest. I actually grew up near that area of BC! This is just a personal taste thing but I wish it was easier to adapt all the highways to 2lane 2way highways

@Inoramundi - that's awesome that you've been to this area! I'm actually quite jealous as I developed a real desire to go visit while making this map! I hope that you enjoy building on it as much as I enjoyed actually building it!

I've been here on a kayak trip! The west side of the Island is a stunning place. So happy to see such an excellent map representing my BC coast homeland :)

@Archmagos - I went through the list and tried to make sure that everything is up to date where the mods are concerned. It should work alright, but if you're still running into issues, please let me know. I was able to load everything fine except for forgetting that I had disabled the Douglas Fir.

If you don't already use it, the Load Order Tool can help sort the order of mods you are using to make them act right together as well and that may play a part.

I'll still take a look as many of them may have updated or been replaced. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

I think the "missing" errors can be ignored; that appears to have been an issue on my end, though it does seem some of the req. mods are still broken.

Wonderful. Thank you so much!

Archmagos, thank you for letting me know. I haven't been into the map in quite some time. I'm currently on vacation with my wife, but I will look into this next week when I get back.

I do notice a bunch of assets failing to load in the loading screen, though, many of which are not in the collection.
