Barracuda

As diminutive as it looks, the Barracuda is an agile escort sub that can be crewed by as many as 2 people and is capable of punching way above its weight thanks to its snub-mounted railgun and depth charge launcher. Unlike common shuttles, the Barracuda can act in almost perfect autonomy, as long as its non-existant cargo and lack of additional on board ammunition is taken in consideration.

The Barracuda is an extremely small and compact sub that can easily be mistaken for a shuttle; in reality it's a fully autonomous sub equipped with several weapon systems, including a 2-shots fixed railgun on the front. While its main purpose is to accompany larger vessels, the Barracuda can be utilized as a low-end sub for daring captains, assuming they can deal with the lack of on board space.

Unlike other subs, the reactor simply provides energy for an array of 4 batteries which then power the entire vessel; although somewhat efficient, its output is rather low and can't quite keep up with the power consumption, possibly requiring some stops in order for the battery charge to catch up. To that end, the sub's systems can be temporarily disconnected from the mainline in order to speed up the process... or reduce noise.

Includes an auxiliary engine that can be activated at the captain's discretion, drammatically increasing the speed of the sub at the cost of a much higher power consumption.

Designed to be played by just a couple of players (or even solo), the Barracuda can be used for most missions while at the same time providing a reasonable challenge. It starts with just 2 railgun shots and a single coilgun ammunition box, so care must be taken when playing single missions. During a campaign, be mindful of the absolute lack of storage space, often requiring additional ammo to be left laying around.
