The Widow

Description
Overview

The Widow is a transhuman cyborg from a distant (or perhaps not-so-distant) dystopian future. Half machine and half venomous spider, the Widow debilitates her enemies with a large suite of debuffs while powering herself up with her infinitely upgradeable cards.

The Widow is a fully featured character, with a full set of unique cards, relics, and potions. Her mechanics are meant to be very in-line with the basegame characters, without any game-defining new abilities or complete system overhauls. If you know how to play the base game, you can pick up and understand Widow very quickly; but mastering her unique interplay with basegame mechanics to bring out her full power will prove tricky.

Mechanics
  • Upgrades: The Widow has several cards that can upgrade other cards for that combat, like Armaments. Several of her cards benefit from - or even require! - mid-combat upgrades. Additionally, some Widow cards have the Beta keyword, letting them be upgraded an indefinite number of times!

  • Debuffs: Widow can fight not just with raw strength but with powerful debuffs. Like Sapped, which reduces enemies' damage dealt; or she can catch attackers in her Web to set up her next attack.

  • Self-debuffs: Some of the Widow's cards are extremely strong and cost-efficient, but give her Weak, Vulnerable, or Frail. However, she has the ability to cleanse her own debuffs; or even benefit from having them!

  • Potions: In addition to Widow-specific potions in the normal drop table, she can also generate new potions from cards, and synergize with potions and potion slots.

This is the most broken, unbalanced, effed-up character I've seen so far. Highly recommended - great work!

hi have you tried this mod with the shadowverse mod? those bosses are super tough, if you fancy a challenge too :)

Like, think about Hide. A common block card should probably not be blocking for 8 and also dealing a GUARANTEED 4+3+2+1 = 10 damage (guaranteed because it doesn't decay until hit and almost every enemy deals damage by attacking you eventually).

If you upgrade it, that common Hide is blocking for 10 and dealing 5+4+3+2+1 = 15 damage. And again, that's 15 damage that sticks around between turns.

And the scaling is insane. Play 2 upgraded (common!) Hides on the same turn? You're dealing 10+9+8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1= 55 damage for two upgraded commons.

The silent has a block card that blocks for 6 and deals 4 damage, that upgrades to blocking 6 and dealing 8. If you play two of them, you're dealing 16. If you specifically get (and draw and play) the upgraded Power that makes shivs more powerful, then you're blocking for 12 and dealing 40.

This character can block for 20 and deal 55 with two upgraded common, no Power card necessary. It's extremely broken. Still fun though.

This character is really cool and fun. The idea of a cyborg character, with gameplay based around continuously upgrading itself, is really flavorful and cool. Instead of adding a bunch of unnecessary complexity, it builds on a base-game mechanic in an interesting and intuitive way.

Unfortunately, Web is the siingle most broken mechanic I've ever seen, lol. One mechanic lets you block AND deal damage AND scale AND deal AoE? Just....holy crap lol. Any time I draft even a little web on this character I feel like an unstoppable, unkillable god. Which is fun in its own way, don't get me wrong, but it's kinda against the spirit of Sts.

There are a million ways to balance Web, but probably the easiest is to reduce it to zero after an enemy attacks. I think this would actually keep the damage values about in line with the base game.

This is a really weird character, but probably the most well designed one I've seen so far. There's a bunch of very strange mechanics that synergize well or just do weird things. Like I literally just saw The Big One, which costs 3 and is ethereal/exhaust, but it gives you a nuke as a potion that does 30(40 upgraded) to all targets.

Another card lets you pay X to use a 0 cost card in your hand X times, another bizarre but well-thought out effect.

The web mechanic is alright, the upgrade combos are pretty interesting, and I think the character's probably a bit overpowered compared to others if you can control your deck too much by removing cards, but it's definitely well thought out. Nice work =3

A bizarre, gross concept that I love - feels very original, very *weird*, which is great for StS; I kinda tire of the boring stuff or the derivative stuff. I hope to see further development and balance!

Agreed with the comment below; how only 1 Web is used each time it procs Caught means it's extremely easy to stack up massive Web amounts, and nuke enemies with a single multi-hit attack
The potion synergy is also a bit op if you get Sacred Bark, Potion Belt and especially Toy Ornithopter; with just Toy Ornithopter, a single Anarchy card can provide up to 40 damage and 20 heal, which is increased to 80 damage with Sacred Bark, and 120 damage + 30 heal if you have all three potion relics

Web is way too strong as it is; even by the standards of modded StS which are obviously much more lax, there is just no effort required to completely break the game with it
