This guide is about the phrases, lingo, terms, and slang that are used in Osu!

Number - Y
1/4 - Timed to fourth notes

1/2 - Timed to half notes.

2B - It's a map that requires two buttons to be pressed once, not for the faint of heart and "stupid" in Chinese.

4k - The Osu! Mania format that uses only four keys.

7k - The Osu! Mania format that uses only seven keys.

Alt Maps - A map that's too fast for singletapping, too slow to stream, and occasionally has a unique pattern.

Agent J - He was designed in 2008 by the iNiS Corporation. (Aka "BA-2" or "Beat Agent-2")

Alternating - A playstyle that uses two buttons instead of one. This is usually refer to one that does this method on one button maps.

Aiko - She was born in June 4, 1999, and was one of the Osu! Taiko mascot design contest. She was created by JMC.

Alisa - Like Aiko, she's one of the Osu! Taiko mascot design contest. She loves her musical talents, enjoys performing music and songs for others, and playing retro video games. She was created by [Glitch].

Avatar Collabs - It's when two or more people team up together to make and/or get avatars to compliment each other and do a theme together.

Beatmap - The game level that has the song/music, background, skin, and such.

BN - Beatmap Nominators, they are those that judge beatmaps and give them ranks.

Beatmapping - The act of making Beatmap.

Beatmap Packs - A collection of Beatmaps, similar to a playlist.

BPM - Beats Per Minute

Burst(s) - Shorter versions of streams, basically 5 notes long.

Buzz Sliders - Sliders that repeat during the 1/8 timing or the "fractions" or above, this makes a buzzing sound.

BZFD - XI - Blue Zenith [Four Dimensions]

Chirou - Chirou was one of the Osu!Taiko mascot design contest contestants. This 14 year old is very strict and her blood type is AB. She was created by pyun.

Choke - It's when one is about to get a good run on a map, but then begins to miss. Mostly due to nervousness.

Consistency - A person's skill and how consistent it is.

Cookiezi - A legendary Osu! gamer,w ho has the top unbeatable scores and epic gameplay.

Cursordancing - When a gamer moves the cursor around in a fancy manner.

CS - Circle size

CTB - "Catch The Beat", a catching the falling fruits and shapes into a basket and to the musical beat. (aka "Catch")

Deranker - An accusatory term referring to top tournament gamers that purposely keep their ranks low by not submitting their performance points.

Don - During May 2008, Don was one of the mascots for Osu!Taiko and was designed by Yukiko Yokoo. Until, he was replaced by Mocha. He's also the main character of the "Taiko No Tatsujin" series. (aka "Wada Don" or "Don-Chan").

DT - Double Time

GD - Guest difficulty

Fail - It's when the health bar completely drains.

Farmer - A person that farms Performance Points.

Farming Map - A map that gives very high Performance Points, due to it's difficulty. But the farmer doesn't care, it's just easy to obtain PP with these maps.

FC - Full Combo

FDFD - XI - Freedom Dive [Four Dimensions] map

Fingercontrol - This is a skill that one obtains eventually, it's precise keyboard typing.

Fingerlocking - It's when a gamer's fingers "don't" work, they cannot give signals to press the keys.

Graveyard - When a map maker didn't update his/her beatmap for several months on end.

HD - Hidden

HP - How the HP drains quickly

HR - Hard Rock

ICDD - Imperial Circus Dead Decadence

Index - A valid form of VSRGS.

Jumps - These are circles that have a ton of space between them, but has sharp angles and timing in 1/2.

Mani And Mari - These twins are the Osu! Mania mascots and represent the 4k and 7k modes, they get along like oil and water. They're made by xiemon.

Mania - The mode that's similar to Dance Dance Revolution.

Maria - Maria is a pianist mascot and represents all things Osu! Mania, she pops out when a gamer makes 100 combos. She was kinda replaced by the twins, Mani and Mari.

Marathon - A very long beatmap, for example those that are full songs.

Mocha - She is the mascot to represent the taiko drum mode. Mocha was created by Crowie.

Mousedrift - It's when the mouse all of a sudden drifts during gameplay.

Multiaccount - 1) It's when a gamer has multiple accounts. 2) When a gamer plays on another account that's not theirs. This is against the rules.

Mutual - It's when two Osu! accounts added each other as pals.

NAT/Nomination Assessment Team - They're the modders of the Beatmap Nominators, just to make sure that the beatmapping process of Osu! remains functional.

OD - Overall Difficulty

Osu! Store - This is where one can buy Osu! merchandise.

Osu! Supporter - Someone that has a has an advance membership and pays/donates to support the game. This also comes with perks.

Pippi - The main Osu! mascot, she pops up when the gamer makes 100 combos.

Pippidon - A taiko drum version of Pippi.

PP - Performance Points

ROR - Babymetal - Road Of Resistance

Ryuta Ippongi - Ryuta was the former mascot for Osu! Catch The Beat, he was created by the iNiS Corporation. At 2014, he was replaced by Yuzu.

Sh*tmisses - When one misses unexpectedly on the easier maps, mostly due to not concertrating.

Sightread - It's when a gamer does good on his/her/xir's first time on a map.

Skin - An individual unique background theme that has a variety of elements, hitsounds, images, and other features. Gamers can make and share skins.

Skinning - The process of making skins.

Slider(s) - The curvy lines where one has to hold down on the ball as it moves along.

Sliderbreak - Missing on a slider.

Sliderends - The end parts of a slider.

Snipe - It's when someone is beating someone else's score, just to beat that guy's score.

Sniper - A person that does the act of Sniping.

Stamina - 1) How many notes that one can hit. 2) Referring to one's endurance during long streams.

Standard - The click on circles mode.

SR/Star Rating - A conservative estimated number gauging a map's difficulty.

Unstable Rate/UR - Unstable rate. A gauge that measures a gamer's reaction and stable clicking on the circles (etc.)

Taikonator - He's one of the many Osu! Taiko mascot contest. This mecha is somehow popular, has just as mysterious origins and is an inside joke. He's the most different and unique out of the submissions. (Aka Taikonator 3000).

Tama - Tama is a 15 year old(?) contestant for the Osu! Taiko mascot design contest, like her rivals, she has a passion for taiko drumming, thunderstorms and festivals.

Tech(nical) Map(s) - An off meta crazy map, it has hard patterns, fast yet unusual sliders, rhythm changes, and doing everything that's not commonly found in most maps.

Yuzu - The Osu!Catch the beat mascot and his birthday is on April 4, 2000, he was created by Thievley.
A - S (Mods)
AP - Autopilot

AU - Auto

CN - Cinema (A rare term)

DT - Double Time

EZ - Easy

FL - Flashlight

HF - Half-Time

Mod Map - A map that's made specifically for certain mods.

NF - No Fail

RX - Relax

SD - Sudden Death

SO - Spun Out
Grades

A - Over 80% or 90% 300s and no misses

B - Over 70% , which is just 300s and no misses or just 300s and a bit over 90%

C - 300s that are over 60%

D - Anything else

S - Over 90%, with less than 1% 50s and no misses.

SS - 100% accuracy and perfection.
