Intro - Now The First Rule Of Gacha Gaming

This is a revamp of an old guide, Weeb Trash For Morons - Gacha Companies. But it will include stuff about gacha games and what basic stuff.

Some of the veteran gamers of gacha games will tell ya that one of the first rules of playing one of these is Don't, just don't start.

But since you're here, I assume that ya want to know what these games are and want to play them.

Fair warning though, I am not responsible, if you decided to go beyond dolphin and selling your first born or your pet cat's soul to these companies.

Note: Help me find incorrect grammar, misspellings and incorrect information. Thanks in advance.

Don't forget to:

Before Starting

These are the steps ya have to take in order to be happy with your gacha journey, this isn't a tutorial on how to play Bleach: Brave Souls. - Those are elsewhere. This is a before of the before, akin to the Big Bang.

1) Research the company - Don't be distracted by the sexy women. It's mainly to see if the company knows how to manage a game and other serious factors. That way, one can see things, like if they have a habit of "pumping and dumping," getting hit with bad luck/game dying in its' home country, game is doing a hard on with catering to whales, etc. That way, it won't make sense to start, fall in love with your waifu and have her "taken away". So, quickly. Due to the company being clueless, actually greedy and impatient, or worst, is a scam company.

2) Find out what anti-cheat that the game that ya want uses, that way ya won't be dealing with spyware, anti-cheats that will dish out false positives for smooching your waifu, or worst, getting your Steam account ban (This happened with Lost Arc, I am cheating with this reference).

3) Research the account binding. Just to see if it's gonna be tedious to do or skipping around the park with your pet. An example is KLab's handling of account binding (Which is why I and others advice to "Make a KLab account and do multi-binding.")

4) You're playing a "Games As A Live Service", well the "smaller" cousin of it. These servers won't last long. Might as well give a farewell party to your waifu, when that day draws near. - Since, there's a few companies that won't give a "One last hurrah."/"Server Closing Farewell." Party.

5) Beware of the mobile ports of gacha games that come to Steam, since there's some that don't allow you to link externally and/or recall your data from an external service. Find out to see if you can link it externally/recall data from an external account. If the game doesn't, dump it or, if you're still interested, play the mobile version (If there's a mobile version).

5 1/2) Some of 5's problems are due to the some companies offering little to no account binding on social media sites, like connecting a game to Twitter/Facebook, or important personal accounts, like emails. It doesn't hurt to find your gacha game account, jot down your game ID and your carbon footprints (like saving receipts), just to be safe and recover your data.

Other times, link your gacha game ID if ya can. Just to spare you from a irl 3AM creepypasta.

6) I, Da Butler Did It, LOL/PachirsuGrrl33, am sorry if I stole your luck. Remember that when ya see my Steam guides with a limited Bleach waifu/husbando, some 5 Star furniture or some Lucario/Keldeo-tier Summon.

Honorable Mentions

1) Research how the community is, so that way you can fit in and not deal with crazies that should be touching grass (In a mental and physical sense). An example is the Genshin Impact fandom, you're better off dealing with those in YouTube and your IRL friends/family, instead of the ones from TikTok and Twitter. - There's a huge difference between the groups, they're like two different people with the same surname.

2) Try to keep your Steam Deck away from kids/ supervise them, if they want to play (especially if they want to play a gacha game). It's because, they don't grasp that money is finite. They think it's infinite. The last thing one needs is going to buy food, only to find out that the kid spent the entire life savings to get Swimsuit Isane.

2 1/2) If you're a kid/young teen, the gacha company is trying to change ya into gambler. They wanna trick you into giving money too quickly and that's one of the ways that they mess with your brain. Yes, even Nintendo is trying to ruin your brain.
How Crazy Are The Gacha Companies

This tiny list is based on Borkono Gaming's GGG Tier List Youtube vid, some experiences from interviews from others and such. Plus, I'm not gonna list ALL their games here, it's just a few examples.

Bandai Namco
- Their gacha is "friendly" to newcomers, it's easy, to keep up without summoning for the latest thing.

Warning: Kinda likes to pump and dump.

Games:

Hoyoverse
/
Miyoho
- Their games can be played without summoning. The Chinese company is "pro-consumer" as far as they can go, plus, they're one of the few that don't make mistakes that other gacha companies do (like "pump and dump" and "zombie-fying their stuff).

Games: Honkai Star Rail

KLab
- Be aware that downloading this game, you've decided to be in the "Drowning Pool Kid" meme, KLab is the Mom and the noobs are that the happy tiny kid. - They bury newcomers with the premium currency, crazy amount of activities and rewards up the whazoo. Whereas the vets are the drowning kid, clinging and crying for dear life. - KLab puts things into a trickle, when one gets to the wall. It's to the point that to some vets, there's little else to do, until, they Summon (and there's very little resources to farm for the premium currency.)

Whether it's a vet that has limited premium currency, due to wall reasons,...Or noob that doesn't know what to do and "gotten lost." That's when they want gamers to start pulling out the wallet.

Games: Bleach: Brave Souls

Note: KLab has other games, like Captain Tsubasa: Dream Team, Friendly Fungi, Funny Aquarium and the like, but they're on mobile. (And I dunno if they're ALL gacha games).

Konami
- Despite that some of the few games, like Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links, aren't gacha per se, even though they're gacha. The monetization isn't crazy, it's to the point that it's unnoticeable. Unless, it's their sports titles.

Games: Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links

Note: They don't pump and dump. But beware of their sports gacha games, they're p2w. Apparently, they care for Yu-Gi-Oh! game, since they been giving it healthy updates, fun banners and other good things.

After "letting go" of guys, like Hideo Kojima and Koji Igarashi, be aware that you might see the characters from your favorite Konami franchise being degraded into gacha stuff or worst. So, it's okay to cry, like Gimli did in the Mines Of Moria. (This is a prepare for the worst warning. Just dismiss that, if ya find nothing.)

Level Infinite
- LI's gacha games' monetization is mainly on their skins.

Games: Tower Of Fantasy, (Honorable Mention: PUBG (Probably the mobile version).

Netease
- They're in the middle, not the best and not the worst when it comes to gacha and monetization. They're old school hard game as far as gameply is concern.

Games: Onmyoji

Netmarble Games
/
Netmarble
- One needs to be rich and strong mentality to put up and to have fun with Netmarble games, since they like to lock stuff, including gameplay, behind a paywall. Unless, one doesn't mind doing a Korean grind.

Note: Some gacha gamers regard them as the "EA of gacha games." You know it's bad when dolphins and up to the pingus view them in the same level as the company that won the "Worst Company in America" and the "Golden Poo" trophy twice.

Games: INA

Nexon
- Nexon makes horrible, lazy and greedy gacha games (Not Netmarble bad though).

Note: The exception to this are "Blue Archive" and "Konosuba! Fantastic Days." These two are heavily supported. Also, this company is unpredictable, they could go the horrible route or the "pro-consumer" route.

Games: INA

Square Enix
- Some of their gacha games are old, they don't abandon their franchises. They maintain and support their games and will milk 'em. SE also casts phoenix downs on "dying" gacha games. One can enjoy their games, since, Square Enix isn't too heavy on the monetization.

Games: Dissidia Final Fantasy NT

Note: Some of their Steam gacha games might get "infected" by NFTs or worst, their newer gacha games will come out with NFTs, due to President Takahashi Kiryu (who also thinks that NFTs is a good idea).*

Personal Note: I dunno if this is Square Enix's doing or Disney's, but I had a bad experience with KH Unchained X (It's my very first gacha game). It seems as if they have a new banner ever other week, they shove it into my face and it seems as though they want one to spend to get a slight edge. (It's probably Nintendo bad).

* Yosuke Matsuda, the previous guy, also loves NFTs, but it apparently weren't put into their gacha games.

Companies Whose Gacha Games Appear As Cameos

These companies have gacha games won't ever be seen in Steam, but are mentioned in my gacha game Steam guides.

Nintendo - Nintendo is wholly different when it comes to gacha, their console games are mostly a shining example of how to make pro-consumer games and are very child friendly. But with gacha, it's the reverse. The basic game and most important stuff is in the game. They like gacha. If that won't kill you, then their subscriptions, will. - They will occasionally gatekeep a few QOL perks and cool stuff behind a subscription. (It's not Netmarble level of crazy though).

Despite that, the monetization is balance-ish.

Games: Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Dragalia Lost (Honorable mention)

Note: Occasionally, Nintendo would get in trouble for going a bit microscopically overboard with the microtransactions and gacha, like the Mario Kart Tour incident. Nintendo was forced to remove the gacha aspects of the game.

Crunchyroll Games
- They're very merciful towards newcomers, when it comes to gameplay and not too crazy about the monetization (Even though it's a gacha game).

Warning: Likes to pump and dump.

Games (That I used to play): Princess Re;Connect

Note: They're the reason, why I made the "Plz, do your "research", it's because they don't understand their games (Except Fate/Grand Order).
Gacha Gamer Behaviors
"We're gonna talk about what I call "The Cycle Of Gacha Grief."

This is outside of the glossary.

Life Cycle

  • Honeymoon Phase - This is the gacha gamer's life cycle, young and "innocent", learning the mechancis and getting spoiled with rewards (and other rewards to keep him playing).
  • Grinding Phase - The gamer then meets obstacles, like the new cool stuff are restricted, stuff gets gated (like "gated by dailies") and the progression is at a snail's pace.
  • Coasting Phase - During this life, the gamer has a ton of leveling up materials, but needs to draw for Characters that they don't have. This is a very subconscious goal or some sort of win condition.

The Five Stages Of Grief - Gacha Edition

  • Excitement - The gamer experiences the thought of getting that rare 5 Star Character(s)/Gears/Weapons/Items or the coolest ones.
  • That's Okay - He didn't get the desired Character(s).
  • Oh, Come On! - Now he really didn't get the desired ones, after a few draws (or 21 draws). Despite frustrations he's still holding on to some hope that he'll get bless by the RNG God.
  • Copium - This is the "It could've been worst." cope mentally, especially if the gamer gets a different Character(s)/Gears/Weapons/Items that gets him to places.
  • Acceptance - After all the craziness, he gets the Character(s)/Weapons/Gear/Items that he wants. Now he can get hype for the next banner.
  • Repeat.
My Luck Rituals

Unlike Hidan, I would advise ya to NOT pray to
Jashin and do rituals for said god to get your waifu.

Here's my tiny rituals that I do, I doubt that they will help anyone. But it's worth the shot. - I will add when I discover more.

1) Pray to RNGesus.

1 1/2) Pray to various luck gods, even from different gacha games and ones that you never played from. When the "End Of Service" approaches, adopt the god(s) who have given ya luck in the past and bring them over to the new game. Also, adopt a foreign god, especially when EOS happens, these luck gods got displaced whenever the servers get turn off.

2) If you're getting decent/good/awesome pulls in succession after succession in a single banner. Don't brag about the pulls. Until, the banner goes away. It's better to do a "silence is golden" and get the decent/good Summons for important reasons/the featured banner characters. Than to brag, jinx the luck streak and get mediocre or worst, nothing.
Other Gamers' Luck Rituals
These are other gamers' luck rituals, besides praying to RNG-esus, of course. This chapter won't cover everything.

Consulting the Magic Conch Shell.

Github Version[deconimus.github.io]

Before pulling, put everything, except the game, in absolute silence, like hide in a closet. Then let the Summon animation finish. When it comes to weapons and helpful accessories, fill your brain with the weapons that you already have. Just to lessen the desire and avoid the disappointment.

Play and summon when you're in the toilet.

Do research to find out the time when people from different countries* are going to sleep.

* The country of where your gacha game came from.

Get your love one/significant other/a very trusted person/kid/pet to pull for you. They have the luck aura.

Pray to other gods, like Shrenron (The mighty dragon), for a good banner Summon.

Change your desktop wallpaper to your desired character.

Wait for the last beat drop of a game's background music then draw.

Emergency Phone Book
This is a tiny "phone book" in case, ya really, REALLY, become too involved with the game (and waifu). In other words, ya need help.
