Though most of them will never see their home again, they continue their sacred mission, keeping the memories of others alive until they are released from their duty at memory's end.

The heruan are a race of genetically modified xenohumans hailing from a remote glitterworld established during the First Wave of Exploration. Direct descendents of the people of Old Earth, the heruan people sent forth the Triune Expedition Fleets in the wake of the fall of Old Earth and the collapse of the Origin Systems, their mission to catalogue and preserve the breadth of humanity in order to keep their memories alive for posterity.

Mod Contents

This mod adds the heruan, a vanilla-friendly race of avian xenohumans hailing from a long-forgotten glitterworld!

  • Fast Movement - Heruan have strong legs and light bodies, allowing them to move more quickly than baseline humans. +0.8 c/s Move Speed
  • High Heat Tolerance - Heruan are well-adapted to warm climates and can endure more heat than usual. +10°C Max Comfortable Temperature
  • Inquisitive - Heruan are naturally curious and pick up new ideas and concepts quickly. +10% Global Learning Factor
  • Talons - Heruan have large talons on their feet that can deal grievous melee damage. Power 12 (Sharp)
  • Frail Bodies - Heruan agility and speed come at the cost of low overall constitution. -10% Body Health Scale
  • Low Cold Tolerance - Heruan are less comfortable in cold climates due to their heat adaptation. -6°C Min Comfortable Temperature
  • Memory Obsession - Heruan are obsessed with the recording and keeping of memories, and will be saddened by the loss of unrecorded life. They gain a stacking -1 mood penalty when any sapient individual dies in the same area, regardless of whether they were enemy or ally. This penalty increases to -3 for friendly colonists.

Heruan also have access to unique technology from the First Wave of Colonization:

  • 4 new apparel and 2 new headwear
  • 2 melee weapons, 3 ranged weapons, and the Solar Lance, a hybrid polearm with a built-in stun pulse launcher.
  • 3 new buildings including 2 specialized turrets
  • 4 memory shards and 4 associated memory sculptures

The Triune Castes

Heruan society is centered around the Triune castes of Sun, Moon, and Star. These are not hereditary castes but ones adopted in adulthood; heruan adolescents are expected to aspire to and train themselves for future inclusion into a caste.

Sun Caste
The builders and guardians of heruan society, Sun caste heruan are experts in excavation, construction, and fabrication, as well as the security and defense of heruan settlements. Solar armor is hardened and provides better protection against both construction hazards as well as predatory animals and belligerent factions.

Moon Caste
The growers, handlers, and caregivers of heruan society, Moon caste heruan grow and raise food and provide healthcare and medical services for the Triune Expeditions. Lunar robes enhance their ability to perform these tasks.

Star Caste
The diplomats, scholars, and artists of heruan society, Star caste heruan are responsible for the leadership of the Triune Fleets as well as their sacred rites of Remembrance. Stellar gowns contain the neural interweave necessary for heruan to record the memories of sapient subjects, and Stellar heruan are responsible for the cataloging and provisioning of memory shards in the production of memory sculptures.

Remembrance

Individuals wearing Stellar gowns can perform the most important of heruan rites: the rite of Remembrance. Using the neural interweave in their gowns, they can record an echo of a sapient being's memories and save them into a crystal memory shard. Memory shards are not a perfect recording of the subject's memories, but influenced and affected by emotions and personality; the exact nature of the shard cannot be known in advanced, but the skills and traits of the subject will influence the type of the shard that is produced.

Memory Shards
Memory shards come in four types: Tumultuous, Diligent, Nurturing, and Insightful. They can be expended to gain a significant amount of experience in a random skill associated with its creation, or used in the construction of memory sculptures.

Memory Sculptures
Memory sculptures are created at the sculptor's bench using both raw materials and memory shards. When placed and powered, they project some of the memory echoes stored within, affecting the mental state of all allies around them.

Compatibility

Heruan, Keepers of Memories requires the Humanoid Alien Races Framework to function.

Heruan caste apparel are vacuum safe for Save Our Ship 2 when used in the conjunction with the Triune helmet or other sealed headwear.

This mod has native compatibility with Combat Extended and should self-patch when CE is loaded.


Heruan, Keepers of Memories uses the Eccentric Projectiles embedded library for visual effects and animations. Please check out the EP mod settings for options!

So your weapons are patched for CE but apparently your pawns are not and the villagers show up with NO ammunition for their guns.

Love the look of the mod, the only problem I ran into is that Heruan's are not compatible with Xeno-type gene & turn a ugly green when mixed. If you could make it were their gene are accessible for more control over there look like the Ratkin have it if you would kindly.

I've noticed that when using Combat Extended's generic ammunition setting, this faction's settlements and traders do not stock ammo.

I've found the same issue as DestyNova regarding the expedition Sentry Gun and Shrike Launcher: I'm guessing those ammo types haven't been added yet.

Found what may be a bug on the Expedition Sentry gun. Caliber is listed as Frangible sentry round, but it is noted as not patched for CE. Anybody else has this too? Sure I can use other turrets, but I wanted to do a Heruan run with as much of their gear as possible.

I just noticed that my Heruan got several unrecorded loss debuffs in a short time. I was unaware that I had any other people on my map so I investigated. Found out that 3 shamblers that had entered the map had died. This matched the unrecorded loss x3 debuff I got. It would seem that shamblers dying will give the mood debuff. I feel that shamblers already being dead should not trigger this debuff. Is this intentional or something that can be corrected?

@Armchair_Tactician - I use a very old copy of Photoshop (CS5.5). I'm not sure what you mean by animations, but if you're referring to the weapon animations and projectile effects, those are using an animation library called Eccentric Projectiles that I've been working on over the last 3 years.
