Westerosi Dynasties

Description
Adds Westerosi dynasties via character interaction. It also adds a lot of ASOIAF CoA elements to the CoA maker if you want to create your own! Artefacts are included for relevant Houses. And much more! (images contain handful of examples of the CoAs in the mod)

NOTE: This mod is FULLY MODULAR—you can turn off/on whatever parts of it you don't want. The default for most options is OFF, so you'll need to enable them when you start a game.

FEATURE BREAKDOWN
  • Westerosi dynasties: use character interaction to give yourself or NPCs a Westerosi dynasty
  • Artefacts: certain dynasties come with certain artefacts, such as crowns or weapons (I haven't bothered to make them compatible with placing them INSIDE courtrooms, so try that at your own risk)
  • Emblems: the mod comes with a lot of emblems found in either of the two new CoA categories: 'ASOIAF' or 'Historical Alt', with dozens of new colours to use.
  • Widowhood: characters can get the widow trait after the death of their spouse
  • Marriage refusal: you (but not the AI) can give yourself a trait indicating you refuse to be wed
  • Contraceptives: you (but not the AI) can give yourself or your descendants a modifier that cuts fertility while you have it
  • Dynamic CoAs: you can have title CoAs match House CoAs, with various options available:
    - Universal: all titles are affected
    - Sub-Kingdom: only titles below kingdom-tier are affected
    - Sub-Duchy: only titles below duchy-tier are affected
    - Off: works like vanilla

HOW IT WORKS
Because I don't yet know how custom tooltips work, I haven't added in-game explanations about when you can use certain interactions, so I'll explain it here.

Multiplayer: It works in multiplayer, but you can only target yourself, not others.

Using the character interaction to set a dynasty:
  • Works if the person does NOT already come from a Westerosi dynasty
OR
  • If the person is a bastard of ANY kind (legitimised, etc), even if they are a bastard from a Westerosi dynasty

Widowhood: If your spouse was nothing to you or merely your friend you get the trait for 2 weeks, if they were your lover you get the trait for 5 years, if they were your soulmate you get the trait for 15 years

Marriage refusal: You can use a character interaction on yourself to refuse marriage if you are an adult and not married/betrothed

Contraceptives: You can at any time select yourself or your descendants (if they're an adult) to give them a contraceptives modifier. You can then use another character interaction to remove it. If your child marries into ANOTHER House their modifier is automatically removed and you can't give it to them again. If sibling still has the modifier from when you were playing your parent you can use the interaction to remove it for them, but you can't give it back to them anymore.

SELECTING THE HOUSE YOU WANT
Most Houses you can choose freely, but certain Houses have conditions…

Houses where you must be a bastard of ANY kind from a certain dynasty:
  • House Bittersteel — Targaryen dynasty
  • House Blackfyre — Targaryen dynasty
  • House Bloodraven — Targaryen dynasty
  • House Brightflame — Targaryen dynasty
  • House Targaryen (Aegon II’s branch) — Targaryen dynasty
  • House Targaryen (Maekar I’s branch) — Targaryen dynasty
  • House Truefyre — Targaryen dynasty
  • House Dargood — Darklyn dynasty
  • House Darke — Darklyn dynasty
  • House Darkwood — Darklyn dynasty
  • House of the Crossing — Frey dynasty
  • House Lannister (of Lannisport) — Lannister dynasty
  • House Fossoway (of New Barrel) — Fossoway dynasty
  • House Arryn (of Gulltown) — Arryn dynasty
  • House Royce (of the Gates of the Moon) — Royce dynasty

Houses where you must have a parent of a certain dynasty AND be yourself of a certain dynasty:
  • House Targaryen (Rhaenyra’s branch) — Targaryen dynasty; parent of Arryn dynasty
  • House Baratheon (of King’s Landing) — Baratheon dynasty; parent of Lannister dynasty
  • House Baratheon (Renly’s branch) — Baratheon dynasty; parent of Tyrell dynasty
  • House Lannister (of Darry) — Lannister dynasty; parent of Darry dynasty

Houses whose selection depends on the existence of another dynasty:
  • House Bolling — If Durrandon dynasty exists, you MUST be a member of it to select, otherwise it’s free to select
  • House Karstark — If Stark dynasty exists, you MUST be a member of it to select, otherwise it’s free to select

Special religious requirement:
  • House Baratheon (of Dragonstone) — Baratheon dynasty; AND either be the House head of House Baratheon OR have a different faith than the House head of House Baratheon

HIDDEN COAS IN MOD FILES
All the CoAs belonging to Houses are available via the character interaction, unless I just haven't gotten around to adding them yet. But there are several other CoAs belonging to things like religious orders, mercenaries, etc (Golden Company, Faith of the Seven, etc) which are in the game files under \common\coat_of_arms\0_asoiaf_MISC\, where you can copy/paste them into the CoA editor and use them in your games!

COMPATIBILITY
This mod was designed to be as compatible with other mods as possible (even overhaul mods!), so there should be minimal compatibility issues. That being said, keep big mods like overhauls UNDER this mod in your load order so that if there IS any compatibility trouble, the overhauls would take precedence.

This mod is not meant to be used with AGOT, and will cause crashes if you do

KNOWN ISSUES
  • Upon founding a dynasty, the dynasty founder at the top of the dynasty tree will not have the same graphical appearance as in vanilla (big portrait + dynasty shield + dynasty motto). This doesn't affect gameplay.

  • If you meet the conditions for them, cadet branches will appear in their respective menus like normal. But otherwise may not appear in the menu until you meet the requirements for them. This shouldn't affect gameplay.

  • You can't earn dynasty renown until the dynasty founder dies: Initial 1000 renown given to make up for this.

OTHER MODS

CREDITS
  • Most CoA emblems were taken from Game of Thrones, so credit would go to HBO for those, as well as to those at the Game of Thrones FANDOM wiki who translated some of those show CoAs to flat 2D images
  • To the AGOT team for the use of some CoA emblems
  • To the 'LOTR: Realms in Exile' mod team for letting me use 2 of their assets: the widow trait icon made by Vierwood, and the clean CoA mask made by Cryyc
  • To the_stormlands for making me a bunch of CoAs a long while ago, some of which I still use in this mod
  • To LancelotLoire for putting together the CoA code for Houses Lonmouth and Rollingford
  • Chinese translation by Yuknowitxoxo
  • Iron Throne model by The Mangle
  • Dark Sister model by Jedi
  • Oathkeeper model by Efarys
  • Longclaw model by rybak
  • Ice model by Hayster Modelling

So not sure why or how, but one of the decisions that was available while having this mod open was a hatch_dragon_egg decision. Also an option to reforge Ice, but well, I wasn't playing as Starks.

The only other mods I had on were the asia expansion mod, love marriage family, and a mod that ads ck2 music. None of those should have added things like that as decisions.

I do have the the AGOT mod, but its not in that playset so shouldn't be having that pop up.

The mod still works near as I can tell, didn't have any issues using it in the quick little test I did.

that answers a question I had about whether or not it works.
