Torchlight Arena (alpha_05)

Description
Torchlight Arena - [PvP mod]

Note! This is an ALPHA version, but there are four different classes, complete with skills, which you can try out.

Torchlight Arena - where heroes are forged -

Once it's complete this mod will feature:

* All new classes, designed and balanced for PvP.
* Specially crafted Weapons and Armor sets for all classes.
* A reward system where you earn Gold, Trophies and Items by fighting in the Arena.
* Merchants where you can buy new Weapons, Armor, Gems and Spells.
* Enchanters who can add sockets and enchantments to your gear.
* Arena maps designed for 1 vs 1 and Team vs Team PvP, where you can duel your friends.
* Different objective based game modes, such as Capture the Flag, Stop Watch and Control Point.

Well, that's the plan anyway... Right now there's only me developing this mod, but I'm optimistic about getting some help for this project in the future.

TLA is a total conversion mod. This means that it will not exist alongside the vanilla quest-line. You will not be able to pop in and out of the Arena with a questing character. Nor will you be able to use any of the vanilla classes in the Arena. Only classes created for TLA will be available to play and only Items and Gear created for TLA will be available to use.

The motivation of the game will be to climb the ranks in a leader board. And to gain fame and fortune when you duel or fight for the game objective. Gold and items you earn when you fight can be used to purchase better gear and additional items, enchantments, potions, gems, etc. So you can craft/forge a better hero as you progress.

The idea is that you should be able to jump in and play a 15-20 min match. And perhaps join a longer objective campaign, which may last up to an hour or so.

TLA will have more in common with class based FPS shooters such as Team Fortress and MOBA games like LoL, than the vanilla TL2 experience. Though TLA will not be a MOBA. Just so we're clear on that...

The mod is currently in ALPHA and is still in early planning and development. But I want to release the classes now to get feedback from you guys and girls, and to help me test PvP so I can balance the skills.

What this Alpha release contains is: Four new original classes with one skill tree, containing nine active and three passive skills. The skills have just one tier, where you can invest maximum 5 points. The classes are variations of the archetype classes: Mage, Ranger, Rogue and Warrior.

The classes are complete with skills, but the skills are not balanced properly yet and some of the skills might be changed or replaced later on. I've also added two new weapon types, which are: Daggers and Hand-Crossbows, for the Rogue class. Right now there are only starter items for the new weapon types, (level 1).

The classes in Torchlight Arena are:

Hexhunter (Ranger) - Element: Fire
A 'Witch Hunter' class, using Ranged Weapons and Claws.

Nightshade (Rogue) - Element: Poison
A 'Combat Rogue' class, using Daggers and Hand-Crossbows.

Spellblade (Mage) - Element: Ice
A 'Battle Mage' class, using Staff, Wands and Shields.

Stormborn (Warrior) - Element: Lightning
A 'Savage Fighter' class, using Hammers, Axes and Shields.

The classes play OK in single player, (obviously not properly balanced) so you can test them like that if you want to. But what I really need is feedback on PvP and someone to play-test with so I can start balancing the skills, and start creating Weapons and Armors to match the classes.

You start with no points in the skill tree, so enable the console and give your self one skill point if your playing single player. If you're testing PvP, level your self to level 21, (or somewhere around that level) make a build, spawn some gear and fight.

Give the mod a spin and tell me what you think of the classes, the skills and the mod idea in general.

it's good to hear that but why don't you devs create a page for this mod in Moddb?

Hi. Yes. Development is dormant right now, but the project is not dead. Check http://torchmodders.com/ to keep an eye out on development.

Right. I don't have one. Progress is being made though, it's just been hard for me to get time to finish up some bits before a new release. I'll see what I can manage to get done during this week.

I am sorry for the delay in releases and updates on this project. I've been busy setting up a Torchlight Modding community, together with some fellow modders. ( TorchModders [torchmodders.com])

While this has delayed the development of this mod a bit, it has also brought additional developers to the project, so the future for TLA is looking bright.

I hope to have a new alpha release ready soon.
