While this has delayed the development of this mod a bit, it has also brought additional developers to the project, so the future for TLA is looking bright.
I hope to have a new alpha release ready soon.
Torchlight has awesome potential for PvP, but it really wasn't made for it. Someone was making a MOBA mod for TL2 a while ago, but it's died recently. I'd love to see where this goes.
* Weapons and Armor has been created for all classes. There are items for levels 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40.
* Merchants for each class, selling class items has been added.
* Town 4 has been modified and will replace Town 3 as the Arena Town.
* Players start with 100000 gold.
The missing bit before the next release is to find an easy way to level up the players, via a consumable or some game logic.
What's currently being worked on is weapons and armor, and trying to make a merchant sell these items exclusively. I'm also looking into maps and portals, trying to figure out the best way to set up an arena hub.
The little girl should be next to the Destroyer at the start of the game.
I did this exact same thing with Terraria. Although for obvious reasons, it was easier. XD
My friends and I enjoy things that break the mold and let you blow off some grinding steam for a bit.
Anyway, fantastic idea. I wish you the best of luck.
The classes are to powerful as they are and they are too complex with all their skills and spells. Add all the awesome gear to the mix and you have a one-shot fest which is fun to play for five minutes.
IMHO. You need to start the classes from scratch and scale things down to a level where you can duel someone, for at least a few seconds, before you're moshed to gibs. Fun PvP is when it takes some skill and work to bring down your opponent. Having imbalanced and OP classes/skills is not good or fun PvP.
There are other mods which try to balance the original classes for PvP. I've not tried any of them, so I don't know how good they are. If they're not up to par, then go with your idea.
I really value the feedback you give. I am sincerely interested in your opinions and ideas. I don't necessarily have the best ideas for this mod. I just want to play a mod like this, but since it doesn't exist, I'll have to try and create it.
Also, I don't want to be that kind of dev who doesn't listen to what people really want to play ,just because I've got an idea in my head. So please keep the feedback and comments coming.
Last thing. I really need help making this mod, it's a huge undertaking for one man. So to anyone who's been thinking about checking out GUTS. Do it! It's not that hard to make stuff for the game, once you know a few basics. And there's plenty help to get in the official game forum, and here on Steam as well. Go play with GUTS and join me in make this a great PvP mod. Rant over...
Once I've made some more weapons and armor, (currently working on this) and we can PvP without jumping through so many hoops. I will try to organize a few play sessions, open for everyone, so we can test how the classes play against each other.
It will also mess with the UI of other mods, if this mod gets priority. I've disabled the top and bottom plates, on both left and right side, which show the original classes "emblems".
Other than that I don't think it should conflict much with other mods.
A lot of people play multiplayer with mods, LAN and Online, so this mod should be no different.
Learning GUTS is not that hard. Really. It's daunting at first, but if you just keep at it and read/watch some tutorials, things fall into place. (I am just a beginner myself)
If you want to look at mapping, here are a few video tutorials that might help you:

You can play them single player, balance is an issue though and I don't know how far you can play either of them, before you stagnate. I've only tested them up to level 20-25.
I'm glad you like the idea. Don't worry about your skill level with GUTS. I'm sure you can improve on that rather quickly with some tutorials and help. I also need help testing and planning out how things should work.
For instance: Should the players level, or just stay at a fixed level? If they level is the level increase permanent, or does it reset when you start a new game? What level is the ideal max level? Many things like that needs to be figured out, so if you have ideas or suggestions, bring it on. =)
