Mod Summary

Veteran troops have proved themselves in blood and fire, and with this mod, their stats increase to represent their battlefield experience. Veteran units will often be the last to rout from an army even under considerable pressure, and will hold the line much better than their freshly recruited counterparts. However, unit experience must be earned, it cannot be bought.

The 41st swordsmen regiment, straight out of Reiklands academies, charged down the hill towards the beastman threat. They carried themselves well into the fight, but shortly after their lack of combat experience started to show, with their battle worn adversaries gaining the upper hand. Casualties mounted as they begun a desperate defence, the reality of the situation and their impending deaths dawning upon them as they wavered in their desperation and willingness to fight.

The 2nd, a pikemen regiment, had enough experience to read the battlefield, and had positioned themselves to watch the flank of their inexperienced brethren. Noticing the plight of their comrades, they charged headlong, and unexpectedly, into the goatmens side, taking the focus onto themselves and fighting tooth and nail. The veterans of a dozen battles putting on a practical demonstration of their abilities.

What exactly does this mod do?

As a unit gains experience, they gain leadership, hit chance with both melee and ranged weapons, reload speed and reduce their enemies chance to hit them in melee. With this mod, these values are significantly increased.

However, as a balance and to better represent the vast differences between training vs battlefield experience, you will rarely be able to recruit units with experience ranks already gained. Almost all experience will need to be earned in battle, which will slow the process down considerably and make veteran troops much rarer and more difficult to obtain.

What does this mean for gameplay?

The increase in the depth of combat, due to veteran units behaving significantly differently to their inexperienced counterparts, adds another aspect of combat to account for. A unit of veterans holding a key location will hold far longer, but will still take damage from magic, artillery or missiles at similar levels, so allowing other, less valuable units to take damage for them is important, as losing them is a big blow.

Veteran armies become far more significant threats even if they are lower tier troops, and elite units that live to gain enough experience will be absolute monsters on the battlefield, able to contend with some of the most dangerous threats in the Warhammer world.

I will keep it as you have intended with your mod. I will leave those other settings default. Your mods have become that extended layer of depth ontop of SFO and vanilla when SFO is out of commission. Thank you for response.

Wouldnt be as intended, but it would still be fine

Nah it'd be fine. Would reduce t1 melee from 200% to 150%, t2 melee from 150% to 100% and other troops from 100% to 50%,

If I were to adjust the experience gained setting in the SFO menu to any option (example: experience gain is 50% slower) would that disrupt the function of this mod or would those slow down effects compound? If we aren't supposed to mess with those settings I am assuming we keep that setting default for this mod to work as intended?

ahh i misunderstood, but no, it would make the game completely unbalanced.

It doesnt? You should still get the skill tree bonuses for high rank units just as normal.

can you make a version that doesnt remove recruit rank bonuses/doesnt remove the skilltree bonuses?
