Soulless Vessel - Co-Op Dungeon Crawler

Description

Soulless Vessel is a new cooperative Dungeon Crawler for one to five players that adds a unique twist to this genre by putting an emphasis on tactical combat and an insane level of freeform deckbuilding.

In Soulless Vessel, the players assume the roles of ancient heroes, who's souls have returned to fight an age-old evil once more - the Neverwake dragon! To do this, they must take possession of a willing or soulless (but still living) body to be used as their vessel.

Every vessel comes with its unique perks, and a hero may leave one vessel behind to inhabit another, but as you adventure with the same vessel you'll unlock even more of its potential.

In addition to the vessels, your power and playstyle are determined by items and your deck of hand cards. You can use one of the thematic starter decks (like Vanguard, Necromancer or Marksman) or build your own! After each adventure, you can acquire and upgrade both your cards and equipment.

In each adventure, you will have a clear objective and will discover a procedurally generated dungeon or area. Enemies will act according to simple AI-cards that determine their behavior and abilities each round, so combat will require you to coordinate with your party, and positioning and choosing the right abilities are key to victory.

The following aspects make Soulless Vessel stand out against comparable Dungeon Crawlers like Gloomhaven, Descent or Shadows Of Brimstone:
  • Millions of character combinations possible! Make your own build by drawing from a vast amount of unique ability cards, items and vessels.

  • Lots of options to adjust difficulty to your liking, more than just another "+1 damage" to enemies.

  • Beautiful standee-artworks for all heroes, minions and enemies. You won't stare at grey, unpainted miniatures.

  • Entirely for free and 100% officially supported. This game is available to you entirely for free and we will keep pushing updates to it, like new content & balancing updates. A physical boxed copy may appear at a later point in time.

  • A grimdark, more "Sword & Sorcery" inspired world with familiar and relatable themes from traditional fantasy settings.

Our development and release plan may be different from other board games. Soulless Vessel is available as an "Early Access". You will be able to enjoy the entirety of the first three chapters of the campaign (out of five), including all the base content (over 300 ability cards, over 150 items, over 30 vessels and more).

We will release the other chapters over the next few months, expecting to be able to release a new chapter every one or two months! The campaign will be complete once we have released five chapters in total, but we won't stop there. We have tons of ideas for expansion campaigns, standalone adventures and other content.

We develop the game in this fashion so that we can involve you - our community - in the process to help steer the balancing and content, while also giving you the opportunity to support us on our Patreon to help fund the needed game art.

While you can find all PDF files within the mod, some of you may prefer to have these eBooks open in your browser. Below you will find all links to our PDFs.

We will regularly update the mod whenever we see fit. This will typically involve fixing typos or adjusting the balancing of enemies, vessels, items or ability cards.

Chapter 3 has arrived!
TTS isn't really made to update ongoing campaign games, unfortunately. If you already had a campaign, please deactivate mod-caching in your settings. Then load a fresh table of Soulless Vessel and manually re-create the state of your game (vessels, ability cards, items).

Important: After you have fully loaded in (the downloads are done), go to your settings and re-enable "Mod Caching" again, as otherwise some scripts will not work properly (like the dice roller)!

You believe you created the best character build in Soulless Vessel? Or you'd like to have a look at all cards and plan your future progression for your ongoing campaign?

We got you covered! One of our team members, Dash, developed a standalone deck builder tool. Plan your decks and even share them as a simple link with your fellow players.

This is an amazing project! It's really incredible that the team is willing to develop such a well made game that is completely free to play here in TTS. As someone who lives in a 3rd world country where things like board games can have truly exhorbitant prices, you guys have just added hours of very much appreciated fun to come in the near future for my friend group and I! My only worry is that it's been a while since the last update... Is there an ETA for the next chapters?

After couple of run of the introduction chapter, reading the rules many times, I can say that this game is simple Amazing. It needs some touch on the rule book, an I highly suggest to put the damage bar into the standees itself, like for example in the TTS mod of Death may die. I'm having lots of fun, it is hard at the beginning, you must digest and understand the rules and of course your 3 characters. I really hope on some improvements in this game, as suggested. Playing solo.

>There is also a tool to manage cached files with TTS, where you can download files via the tool! I forgot what the name was - perhaps it's TTS Manager?

@Prince Ali:
That can be an issue with the distribution network and security settings, e.g. from your router or ISP. I have that too sometimes and what helps me is aggressively re-loading the game several times, or opening bags repeatedly. Eventually it will accept the addresses and download the files.

One of the best board games I've played so far on TTS. My first experience playing anything similar to DnD other than Baldur's Gate. The systems are relatively simple and not too hard to keep track of, the game is fun and adequately strategic, I love the blind tactics angle the game takes that encourages making game plans and reduces time to strategize, really cutting down on turn time by limiting necessary information to take your turn, I am a fan of the cards, their flavoring, and the systems in play. At this point me and a friend have beaten the boss in the escape segment, although admittedly failing to obey the rules to the fullest in a few key areas, though that was a practice game regardless. More importantly, the core systems were solid, we both had a great time, and I caved in the first bosses head with my vanguard. Thank you for the game, sincerely. Looking forward to playing the first 3 chapters, and looking forward to the release of the final 2 chapters.

@Mario Olivier:
Thanks for the suggestions, but currently we do not have those versions. Since we update them regularly and it's already a bit of a nightmare in terms of maintenance, we will consider such printable versions once we have a final release of the game (with less frequent updates).

@Acmeth: This can be a common issue with TTS and how it links to external files. Sometimes it helps to load into the game, and then load into it several times again. Alternatively, you can try disabling mod-caching in your settings and THEN loading into the game. After you are loaded, re-enable mod-caching.
