Details Matter: True Grit Textures (The Empire)

Description
Greetings fellow Total War players!

Details matter and sometimes I feel that CA make some odd choices. And with WH2 and even more so in WH3, I feel that some detail and grit has been lost from WH1 when it comes to the unit textures. Especially for the regular troops for The Empire. I looked over the texture files from WH1 and noticed that a lot of detail is almost entirely missing from these units in WH3. Their clothes and armor is just way too bright and clean looking, and the units just lacks the grit that WH 1 delivered.

So I set out to try and restore that look by going back to the old WH1 files and see if something could be done about it. The difference is subtle but I think it adds a bit of grit and detail back to the units.

In a sense, I have applied Nuln Oil to these models....

What does this mod do?

Recreates all textures for the following units based on their WH1 textures. I have also used AI upscalling to double the resolution of some of the textures to make them slightly more crisp.

• Regular State Troop units
• Greatswords
• Captain
• General
• Karl Franz
• Artillery Crew units

How do I get the new variations and updated character models from screenshots

Download my Details Matter mod for The Empire or the Collection.
Links are at the bottom.

This is not included in the collection.

How compatible is the mod?

• Should be fully save-game compatible
• Should work even when the game is updated
• Should be compatible with mods that adds new units that are using the same texture files, just make sure this mod is higher up in the load order.

Any known bugs or issues?

• None that I am aware off, so please report bugs in the comments.

Are you a modder yourself?

If you want to use these textures for your own mod, then you are free to do so.

Both yes and no.

This mod is fairly minor as it was first just a way to make the regular state troops look better and more gritty like WH1. But Warhammer 1 Texture Update Project is a much bigger project and in most cases does supersed this mod when it comes to all the other units.

But my mod also upscales the textures to double the resolution size for a bit more crisper look for units that had really low resolution textures in the base game or in WH1.

For instance, the normal state troop unit texture are upscaled to a resolution of 2048x1024 while vanilla and the project mod still have them at 1024x512 resolution.

I have also done this for all the RoR units. This mod is also compatible with my details matter mod that adds more hair color variety to units.

So is your mod superseded by Warhammer 1 Texture Update Project?

Yes, you are right on the left is WH3 and on the right is WH2. Well, I’ll hope and wait) As soon as Immortal Empires came out, it haunted me for a very long time because Malus is my favorite lord)

I am guessing that the one on the left is from WH3 and the one on the right is from WH2?

If so, it looks like it is a missing effect overlay, as it seems to be missing the glow effects. This might be fixable as some of those type of shaders still work. I may look into it on my visual bug fix mod when the next major patch comes out.

It's hard to say, I took a screenshot for comparison. It's not clear that it's a matter of textures or shaders. Maybe you will understand better, you have more knowledge in this area than me https://imgur.com/CdprLjq

@Attila It depends, if it is an effect type texture overlay it may not work because CA broke many of the shaders when they made WH3. If it is just different textures being used, it should be possible to port the textures from WH2 over to WH3.

Hello, I really liked your mod and would like to know. Is it even possible to do the same with Malus Darkblade? Namely with his second form Tz'arkan. In WH2, after his transformation, all his armor was painted in the colors of Slaanesh. in TW3 CA they simply removed this and now the demon does not look as cool as in TW2 (

@Handsome Jack No, you need the details matters mod to get the beard variation.
I decided to do it this way so this would be more compatible with other mods.
