This mod adds the Detachment special rule for the Empire from TT to Total War. The Empire was one of the first factions in this series, but detachments are still missing. This is my version of this faction mechanic.

State Troops do provide leadership, reload and charge bonus buffs for detachments nearby.
Detachments are expandable, half the unit size of a regular regiment and have low leadership on their own. Missile detachments can't skirmish.

Detachments:

- Swordsmen
- Halberdiers
- Spearmen
- Spearmen (Shields)
- Crossbowmen
- Handgunners
- Militia

So what is their role on the battlefield?
The detachments can easily be overrun. their men count is small and the leadership is low. so for themselves, the detachments are wasted. The Empire uses them for supporting "State Troops". In TT every ST can be supported by max 2 detachments. With a halberdier detachment, your swordsmen main get AP dmg for example. Other usage can be a charge reaction. You can position the detachments in front so they get the initial charge and your main regiment gets fresh and unharmed in melee. if you have a wide front-line, detachments on the flank can easily flank out enemies. Detachments beside missile troops can secure flank and back.........at least for a while

I can have a regiment of spearmen instead...?!
Sure. this mod only fills the gaps in your ranks. and if you run out of money in campaign or custom battles, you can get some cheap fodder until your economy (budget) is on the right way. Esp. in custom battles, this mod works nice.

If I understnad, are these units somehow attacked to units existing in the armz separate from the 20 unit cap, or do these just act as smaller versions of the units that take up the max 20 unit per army limit?

The cost can be represented by increasing mainetnance cost by half, sure waagh can also work.

I doubt it would be balanced and that's why I made this variant. other modders made this with deployment spawnings. it wouldn't represent the TT rules better because you also had to pay for detachments and you had a point limit. but that's just my opinion and intention for making this mod (with more mp battles focus than campaign usage).

But I was thinking of something like a Waaagh side army for campaign, where you can recruit detachments manually.

So to get around army unit limit why not turn detachments into unit upgrades instead/as well? That way itll represent tt rule better too.

Ah, even though your user profile is private, I can go via the "Axl's Warhammer 3 mods" panel and there I see Garrison Training and everything seems to be normal.

So strange - it just vanished from my hard drive/WH3MM search results completely.
