I am Speck T. Kline, the legendary mercenary turned private military entrepreneur. It hasn’t escaped my attention that you are commanding a sortie to the beautiful nation of Grand Chien. It is my utmost hope that when selecting personnel for this venture, you will consider a staffing possibility: More Economic Recruiting Center.

M.E.R.C. was founded for one reason: to challenge the unfair monopoly in for-profit soldiers of fortune held by a firm we shall not name here, but which relied on unfair business practices and slander to dominate the market in post-nation state warfare. We boast an array of talented,  unconventional mercenaries, each of whom offers unique qualities said competitor can’t (or won’t) offer.

As you explore Grand Chien, please keep in mind M.E.R.C.’s stable of alternative operatives, who we can offer at discounted field service rate. M.E.R.C. also offers
superior service, bespoke equipment, negligible medical deposits, and a can-do attitude towards the more questionable aspects of mercenary work.

In fact, M.E.R.C. currently has an expedition in the region ourselves. Unfortunately, that team is led by our very talented web administrator, who is now temporarily out of contact while working on site and also appears to have forgotten to pay for our hosting or power bills.

In the meantime, we are proud to announce that per the terms of our antitrust settlement with the Association of International Mercenaries, M.E.R.C. recruitment candidates remain available on a trial basis. Well, sort of. Because a certain web administrator is lost in Grand Chien, M.E.R.C.’s website is down. In the meantime, budget candidates will  appear in the “MENTOR A M.E.R.C.” tab on the A.I.M. website and operate using the same mechanics. The M.E.R.C. roster currently consists of, or is planned to include in the medium to very long term:

- Cian “Provo” Farley, an Irish explosives expert whose perk “Bespoke Grenades” allows him to build unique grenades for his custom launcher. (implemented with full voice lines/graphics/perk)
- Nasser “Dustoff” Sadiq, a former Iraqi Air Force pilot whose perk “Behind Enemy Lines” makes him immune to Suppresed, Flanked, and Exposed. (implemented with full voice lines/graphics/perk)
- Valentín “Ladrillo” Montes, a brain-damaged Mexican merc whose perk “Immovable Object” renders him immune to critical hits. (implemented with full voice lines/graphics/perk, ty to @witzzard for icons and @huda0816 for code support!))

- “Unusually Ruthless” Reuban, miraculously escaped from Romanian death row. Unfinished, in game as placeholder.
- Juan Cisneros, freshman merc from Venezuela. Unfinished, not in game yet.
- Tommy “Crash” Delbert, environmental breaching and assault expert past his prime. Unfinished, not in game yet.
- Timothy “Leech” Jenkins, returning JA1 sniper driven over the edge from his A.I.M. termination and an incident during the 2000 Olympics. Unfinished, not in game yet.

- Frankie “Haywire” Gordon and Bill “Razor” Lamont, Distinguished M.E.R.C. Alumni, still in concept phase.
- Dr. Jung-hoon Myung, black market transplant surgeon turned field medic, still in concept phase.
- Taye Asfaw, Ethiopian National Defense Force officer turned mercenary mortar specialist, still in concept phase.
- Shira Kravitz, Israeli black ops suspended per internal investigation, still in concept phase.
- Yash Deshmukh, Punjab Police SWAT Team leader, still in concept phase.
- TBD mercs.

M.E.R.C. is hiring! To add one of your custom mercs to MERC, simply change their tier in the “hiring” section of the mod editor (where it says “Rookie”, “Veteran”, etc) to:

“MentorMerc”

and add this mod as a dependency! If you are a creator and want to add your merc to M.E.R.C., please make this mod a requirement.

This M.E.R.C. tab is more of a fun placeholder than a new mechanic, but I do hope to update this in the future to include an entirely new website and mechanics for M.E.R.C. (and not just replicating how it worked in JA2 - M.E.R.C. is an established business now!)
