Description
An armour enhancement mechanic mod.

Looking to make your builds stronger? Tired of building bricks? Need a real reason to vary the building blocks in your creations?

Structural Reinforcement is here for you! Using existing vanilla blocks, create columns, beams, bulkheads, armor belts, and more as part of your constructions to actually have an effect on their strength.

Subscribe now, and get a bonus “x-ray vision” feature that shows the extent of your reinforcement, and lets you see under all that armour of your grid!

What is Structural Reinforcement?

This mod reduces the damage done to armour blocks within a radius of a ‘column’ of blast door blocks. Place 2 blast door blocks, connected together along a wall of armour, and the wall will have a range of damage reduction applied to it, reducing all damage applied to the blocks.

This range of damage reduction has 3 levels:

- Blocks immediately supported by the column, and up to 2 full block away will have a 50% damage reduction. Represented as ‘green’ blocks using the x-ray vision (hold left ctrl).
- Blocks 3 full blocks away from the column will have a 35% damage reduction. Represented as ‘yellow’ blocks using the x-ray vision (hold left ctrl).
- Blocks 4 full blocks away from the column will have a 15% damage reduction. Represented as ‘orange’ blocks using the x-ray vision (hold left ctrl).

As an added bonus, when 2 columns are placed, and the range of improvements between the 2 columns would normally have left a ‘yellow’ block, that segment of armour is upgraded to the higher ‘green’ damage reduction level, meaning: it pays to space out your ‘columns’ appropriately!

Damaged the column? If any of the blocks in the column fall below 50% integrity, and break their continuous 2 block segment, the reinforcement fails, and your blocks lose their damage reduction. If your column is longer than 2 continuous blocks, the reinforcement will continue to work, but only along the segments that still have healthy blocks.

What is this “x-ray vision” you refer to?

With this mod, holding the left control key on your keyboard (like with BuildVision 3.0 - which does not conflict) you will temporarily enable an overlay that will make normal armour blocks transparent, and will highlight the blocks being supported in their appropriate colours - green, yellow, or orange. Let go of left control and this will go away. (see In Game Options below on how to change this key)

This will only apply to grids that belong to you or your faction, and to grids that have more than just armour blocks. It is compatible with dedicated servers as well, but the values sometimes take a few minutes (or a reconnect) to update in the x-ray vision. This is purely a display issue, and does not affect the actual reinforcement.

Is this mod for you?

This mod is for you if:
- You are looking for an alternative to other armour buff mods (like AQD Combat or Heavier Armor)
- You are looking for a reason to work in block variety into your regular build style that actually affects gameplay
- You are looking for a near-vanilla way to improve the ‘strength’ of armour without including WeaponCore or additional blocks

This mod is not for you if:
- You want invincible armour blocks
- You want to have multiple armour buff mods (may not always be compatible)
- You want to spam armour bricks (you can still do that, but why do you need this then?)

In game options:
-Type '/sr help' to see a list of commands.
-'/sr xray' will cycle the xray mode off and on
-'/sr keybind' will prompt you to press a single key to set as the new xray mode control

A note on compatibility:
This mod may not be compatible with other armour buff mods. It IS compatible with Heavier Armor, and the buff to the armour from Heavier Armor stacks with (read: is in addition to) the buff from this mod.

Credit to BDCarrillo for creating this amazing mod! Check out BD's other work in mods like; FlightVector, FunLightning, WCRadar, and others. If you're looking for more armour stonkness, check out Heavier Armor.

For those who want support for it, support for beam blocks code inside.

Armor Panels aren't treated the same as Armor Blocks in vanilla space engineers. I don't know if it would be impossible to support them, but for the moment no.

Pro-tip, armor panels are the same kind of block as more complex items like conveyors and so having lots of them in the world can slow it down.

Could you also add support for Armor Panels? At least in xray they don't show up as supported.

Hmm, for me /sr help just shows "/sr xray" which toggles xray on and off entirely, and "/sr keybind" which lets you change the keybind for the xray toggle. I couldn't find a way to actually change the functionality of the xray. It's fine.. the mod is still amazing. I was just hoping to find a way to implement the xray to see inside my ship without adding colors to blocks (in addition to that functionality)

@Pally, there should be already support for blast door sections (or a similar mod) but you can add those blocks by editing the config file in the save's storage location. This will let you add any block you like as a support provider, with the same rules as the other blast door blocks. Check out the thread by Gate in the dicussions.

You can also configure the x-ray through in game commands that you can list by using '/sr help'

2. Could this also work with the mod 'Blast Door Sections'? That mod does add blocks, and I generally like to avoid building the basic structure of a ship with modded blocks, but I'm really intrigued by having more control over the shape of blast door sections. It's still fairly balanced because the integrity for those blocks isn't increased even when they take up more space. In fact, many of them have less integrity than the standard blast doors per volume.
