Better Names for eastern and hellenistic Empires and Satrapies

Description
Hey there,

this is Ermanarich and I present you my newest mod:
Better Names for eastern and hellenistic Empires and Satrapies.

This mod, isn't a unit mod like the others I made before.
It changes some faction names to more historical ones.

Changed faction names:
Cimmeria -> Bosporan Kingdom
Egypt -> Ptolemaic Kingdom
Sardes -> Lydia
Ardhan -> Caspii
Media -> Babylonia
Parthava -> Hyrcania
Drangiana -> Carmania
Arachosia -> Mauryan Empire
Parthia -> Parthian Empire

Now, to the reasons:

Bosporan Kingdom (Cimmeria):
The real Cimmerians were steppe people, which Invaded Urartu and Anatolia. Also the mighty Kingdom of Phrygia was overrunned by them. But all this was over 300 years before our campaign starting date, 272 BC.
Also they were Iranian speaking people and not greeks as the ones which settled in the Bosporan Kingdom.

Now to the history of the Bosporan Kingdom: It was founded as an allience of some greek Apoikias (Colonies), propably as protection against indigenous peoples and rising Empires as Persia: Pantikapaion, Phanagoreia, Kimmerikon, Kytai, Nymphaion, Hermonassa, Myrmekion, Porthmia/Parthenion, Tyritake, Kepoi and Patraios. The cities were on the right and left side of the strait called Kimmerikon Bosporos (from this comes the name Cimmeria in the game), which connects the Black sea with the Sea of Azov.
The Empire was called Basileion tou Kimmerikou Bosporou which means Kingdom of the Cimmerian Bosporos. But historicans name it usually Bosporan Kingdom.
In the time after its formation, it expanded and subordinated some other greek city states and steppe tribes in the region and later also the Skythian Kingdom on the Peninsula of Crimea. For the greek city states in Greece itself the Bosporan Kingdom was an important provider of aliments and slaves.

Ptolemaic Kingdom (Egypt):
I renamed Eqypt, because under the leadership of the Ptolemies, Egypt wasn't anymore the ancient one. It was ruled by Greeks, so it should also have a hellenic name.

Lydia (Sardes):
Easy reason: There was never a Satrapy of the Seleucid Empire called Sardes. And the faction Sardes lays on three ancient Satrapies: Lydia, Caria and Phrygia Megale. The most important one of this was Lydia.
And there also was an ancient Kingdom called Lydia, before the rise of Persia. And guess what's the name of its capital. Right, Sardes! :)

Caspii (Ardhan):
The Caspii lived between the rivers Cyrus and Araxes at the shore of the Caspian Sea. And of course, this sea is named after them.
Ardhan is the name for the Caucasian Kingdom Albania. But in 272, this Kingdom wasn't independent (Albania is first mentioned around 80 BC). Another thing is, that the Kingdom of Albania wasn't centrally in the region, where it is set in Rome 2.

Babylonia (Media):
Very easy reason. The region, where Media in the game is, is the area of the Satrapy Babylonia- with the gorgeous city of Babylon in it. Yes, there was also a Satrapy called Media, but this Satrapy was between the Satrapy Babylonia and the sovereign Media Atropatene-in Rome 2 there is just no province between it.

Hyrcania (Parthava):
The name of Parthava is propably the most senseless in the game. It is Persian and means 'Parthia'. But Parthia is directly in the north of it!!! In the south of the Caspian Sea there was in Seleucid times the Satrapy of Hyrcania, so I decided to take this name.

Carmania (Drangiana):
Drangiana also was a misplaced satrapy. You know Phrada, the city belongs to Sagartia? Yes? This was the Capital of the Satrapy Drangiana.
On the coast and the backcountry of it there were two satrapies- Carmania and Gedrosia. The most part of this faction is in Gedrosia- so why did I choose the name Carmania? First, the area of Carmania was bigger, second, the most parts of Gedrosia were desert. And not just a little one: Alexander lost one third of his men there, when he travelled through it!

Aaaand the last one:
Mauryan Empire (Arachosia):
I removed the name Arachosia because of following reason: There never was a sovereign state called Arachosia (its independent in Rome 2). In 303 BC, the Seleucid Empire gave Arachosia to the big indian Mauryan Empire (The Greeks called it in this time as far I know Sandrakottu Basileia, according to its ruler Chandragupta (gr.: Sandrakottos) ).
Until the end of the Mauryan Empire in 185 BC it was in the hands of the same.
In Rome 2 you can see now, so to say, the westernmost part of the the enormous Mauryan Empire.

Now there are just a few (just kidding, many :D) things left to say :)

This mod should be compatible with almost everything (savegame and other mods).
I'm just not sure how it is with mods who change the name of factions...

Thanks to Cataph and BigBadWolf helping me to decide which faction names to take and to Magnar for his great tutorials, in this case the faction names tutorial.

This fits well with Cataph's Persian Factions: Rosters Expansion:
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=290794598
And Pergamon and Sardes roster expansions, also made by Cataph:
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=288332224

And it would also fit well with threadoflengths Eastern Kingdoms Expansion Mod... But this doesn't work anymore.
But I think about actualizing it, so that it can be used again. Is this wished?

I used this picture for the mod's icon:

Unfortunately a lot of the DLC Factions have blank names, including Desert Kingdoms pack and new DLC Campaigns.

If you could possibly spend a little time to update it for us, I'd really appreciate it as this is one of my favourites.

"When you wanna play Hannibal at the Gates Campaign, DISABLE this mod. Otherwise, the factions in HatG will be nameless!!!!!"
Goes for the Augustus campaign as well, and possibly the Wrath of Sparta campaign.

Thanks for the mod!

yeah it wouldn't be historically correct, but is babylon historical at this time?
Ermanarich  [author] 15 Feb, 2017 @ 2:35pm
@Gyrosmeister: Nope, look it up in Wikipedia, etc.

@Mr. White: I'm sorry, I'm currently not into modding anymore, I don't have the time for it. Also, this wouldn't be historically correct, which is the idea of this pack.

Ah, I see you managed to do it on your own. Sorry that I didn't answer, I haven't got time to play at the moment and so I didn't use Steam for a long time.
