Vassal Tour Hooks, Begone!

Description
Updated for 1.16.*

====> COMPATIBLE WITH 1.15.* / 1.14.* / 1.13.* / 1.12.5 <====

Information

tldr; Stops your vassals from getting free weak hooks on you by disabling an event option they get. If you're playing as a vassal, it also prevents you from getting weak hooks with the same event option on your liege. So be wary, it's a double edge sword depending on who you play :).

Long version: During your tour, specifically, Tour the Grounds, not the Hosted Dinner or Cultural way points, as you go through all the events one by one at a destination, the event (7000) can randomly trigger, which gives you a bunch of nice options for stuff. Now, none of the options are for weak hooks against you, BUT when 7000 is triggered, it AUTOMATICALLY calls the event 7001.

The event 7001 is ran on the vassal's side, not the liege's side. With that, the vassal has some interesting options (if you're playing them) but one of them is unfortunately a FREE weak hook on you. So by calling the event 7001, and it being a vassal (AI), it instantly chooses its choice, and sometimes it's that damn weak hook.

So out of 3 options for event 7001, I disabled the 3rd by commenting it out, as that is the culprit for the weak hooks, so the vassals can't choose it anymore.

Mod Compatibility

The mod only modifies a single file. It pretty much comments out a small paragraph for the weak hooks. So in theory, it should be compatible with most mods as long as they don't edit "claudia_tour_grounds_events.txt".

FAQ

1. Can this be used in my current save? Can it also be removed without issues?

Answer: Yes, it only changes 1 file and these changes are reversible. As long as your game is up to date, it can be added and removed without issues.

2. Does this remove ALL weak hooks that vassals can potentially get on you?

Answer: No, it only removes the weak hooks from the 7001 event that you had no choice over as a liege. For example, lets say you are prompted with a choice. The options are A, B, or C. C happens to say "Bob the vassal will get a weak hook on you.", then clicking that will still allow the Bob to get a weak hook on you.

@heliostellar Yeah that would probably work. When I was making the mod, I just wanted to do the easiest/quickest fix because I just wanted to continue playing and do tours without the favor hooks. Which is why I ended up commenting out the problematic code block rather than looking into other cleaner solutions like how AI weights work.

When I do start playing again, I'll probably look into implementing this since as you mentioned it doesn't hurt the player. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

Is it necessary to completely disable the event? You could just change the AI weight of the options for that event, right? That way the player is not affected by this restriction...

The sacred tree fired off regularly once or once every other time I host a Tour.

It's basically when they ask you to carve something on a tree and you do it, and there is a potential of you 'damaging' the tree and thus the host gets angry and gets a hook on you.

It's one of the event I tried to avoids since it's so dumb. As far as I'm aware, it's not region or religion-locked since I encountered it playing all sorts of overhauls and cultures.

Good to know, can you give me an idea how to encounter the sacred tree event. I might start a new game when Steppes comes out and see if I can chase the strong hook down but I'm unsure if that's region or religion specific since i've never encountered that event before.

In addition, the claudia file you modify is basically untouched for the follow overhauls: EK2, AGoT, PoD, RiE.

This means it's maximizes compatibility for a lot of people. Downside is some of them don't enable Tours, and your Wedding mod on the other hand is virtually incompatible as all overhauls overwrite wedding event.

I can confirm about the sacred tree carving.
Basically if you fail it or whatever, the liege will get angry and force a hook. It's one of the worst outcome of it. I tried to avoid it at all cost.

Hmm, interesting. I've never encountered this event in any of my tours yet. Who or what were you playing as, to get this event to fire? I might try it later for debugging. I know it's a strong hook, and while this mod focuses on the weak hooks, it primarily aims at fixing hooks we don't have a say in. I did find the Sacred Tree event in code along with the loyalty strong hook, but firing the event in debug mode doesn't let it run properly because it's missing all the variables. So I'd have to do a tour myself to trigger it and test it.

there's also the one for doing a tour where you carve a sacred tree and a vassal gets strong hook on you. its easy enough to avoid if you're paying attention, but if you don't know, or are just clicking through events its a major pain in the ass. I like the events, nesting in a landmine to million events that get repetitive is insane. also no way to get out of the hook is also wild. like why would a king let a count he hates, and who hates him basically own him. its crazy.

Thank you! Yeah, it was probably an oversight on Paradox's part, not really a bug since it's working as intended technically.

Damn great job. Hooks you can not control are super annoying, and if this is not a bug but a design choose, then I must say it is super bad choose. At least I think here should be a way to let you abandon weak hooks by paying something back. It can be cash or opinion something, but no limiting this action to cruel personality.
