[WOTC] Luck Tracker

Description
Overview

Visual display of your overall luck percentage for the current mission in the tactical view based on the hits or misses performed by your soldiers.

If you are like me, and you are convinced you are the unluckiest person alive when playing XCOM, this mod will show you just how unlucky you are.

How is the Luck Meter Percentage determined?

Currently it's a basic system that measures your current luck by your hits and misses. Hits positively effect your luck and misses negatively impact your luck. Example:

  • If you hit a 70 percent shot, you gain 30 luck and the luck meter will show 30%.
  • If you then hit a 10 percent shot, you gain 90 luck and your luck is now 120, but the luck meter will simply show 100%
  • If you then miss a 70 percent shot, you lose 70 luck and you are then at 50 luck (120-70) and the luck meter will show 50%
  • If you then miss a 60 percent shot, you lose 60 luck and you are at -10 luck, but the luck meter will show 0%

Any suggestions on improving this system would be welcome but for the moment I feel it's simple enough to both understand and visually represent luck!

I also added a scaled system that can be enabled in the mod settings so that it isn't so 1:1 to 0-100 and is scaled for 0-350 instead if you prefer.

Features

  • Visually see how lucky (or unlucky) both you and the enemy are during tactical missions
  • See a breakdown of all hits/misses performed during the mission segmented by hit chance ranges
  • Various settings to alter the position and display of the luck meter using the Mod Config Menu
  • The luck meter will maintain your luck statistic when a save is reloaded

Future Release Plans

  • Build upon the luck system to incorporate more aspects that effect your luck in any given mission
  • Aggregate and Visualize Luck over time from all combined missions
  • Have a breakdown of the enemy hits/misses to cross compare luck
  • Incorporate the final results from the mission on the debrief or walk up

Other Notes

  • The luck meter UI element tracks the luck of the player during a tactical mission and when a new mission starts it will be reset. So essentially the luck meter is a representation of your luck in your current mission.
  • Both a 0 and 100 percent shot hit or miss will not effect the luck meter in either direction.
  • This is simply a visual representation of luck and does not have any actual gameplay impact at the moment.
  • Consider this an alpha build at the moment as it still could use some work and hasn't been super tested!

Compatability Issues
  • With Mitzruti's Perk Pack installed, there are a fair amount of duplicate calls that are sent to the event listener I am working with that effectively double Hit/Miss values. Other perk packs play nice with this mod though (Extended Perk Pack, A Better Barracks).

Again, this is a work in progress and I'm still working out the kinks but of course if you see a bug, go ahead and send it my way so I can give it a looksee :)

Very cool mod for us statistic fanatics. On the Bandit faction counting on the XCOM side. That might be caused, be the same thing that makes them activate vips and such. Technically third party factions who use the e-team one and two factions, sort of count as a player.
It would be cool, if you could separate this Luck Tracker into each faction instead of just XCOM and enemies. Something similar to how the Kill Counter mod has separate counts for them too.

Would Grazes be added to this tracker as well, if possible?

The most essential mod for our painful campaign, you can finally have concrete proof that it's not "that's xcom baby" and more like that's cheating baby. negatives into this luck meter would be the cherry on top so we can finally close that debate of the commander being more lucky than AI.❤️ STOP CHEATING ADVENT LOL

Omg FUCK THE HELL YES! I CAN FINALLY QUANTIFY MY NEGATIVE LUCK. FINALLY WHEN SOMEONE SAYS ITS NOT POSSIBLE FOR YOU TO HAVE MISSED ALL GAURANTEEDS IN EVERY MISSION.

I CAN GET PROOF! I CAN GET PROOOOOOF!

That is actually a great idea. I can definitely work that in to the next release and add a couple of sliders in to the mod config menu as well. Good call on that.I have some updates I want to work in for the Covert Infiltration mod and the legacy pack content in the next build but should be able to throw that into the mix.

Now having played with it: can you put an INI setting for the maximum and minimum values? I know having -1000% or +1000% luck would seem weird, but I want to know if the enemies (all 50 of them) have 'should' have made 10 more shots, or if I should have.

I miss this feature on the old Lifetime Stats, before the Redux version done away with it

No problem man. I underestimated the complexity of everything that is involved when taking this on because it turns out there is quite a bit of nuance to the abilities that are in the game or could be in the game (from other mods) and not everything is as straight forward as a standard shot that either hits or misses :p. It does make more sense to me now as to why this hasn't been created yet though.Totally worth the effort though.
