Curated Challenges

Description
Time for a CHALLENGE...

NEW WAYS TO SLAY THE SPIRE

Inspired by challenges from other popular roguelites such as The Binding of Isaac, Curated Challenges offers 20 unique challenges, each with different rules that make them stand out from traditional runs. Adjust your playstyle as the rules are bent such as with modified card pools, map generation, encounters, and more.

TRACK YOUR PROGRESS

For each character, challenges are listed top-to-bottom in order of difficulty (roughly). Upon completing a challenge, a checkmark will permanently appear next to it. If you beat a challenge on Ascension 20, the Ascension icon will appear next to the checkmark. Use this as a to-do list! Can you complete all the challenges?

Reflect on your runs in the Run History screen, where the challenges' names will appear next to the "score" section if a challenge was active.

CUSTOM CHALLENGE SUPPORT

Can't get enough challenges? No problem! Curated Challenges makes it easy for modders to add their own challenges, whether that be for the base game characters or other modded characters. Please visit the Curated Challenges wiki page [github.com] for a guide on how to easily implement your own challenges for players to complete.

CROSS MOD CONTENT

In addition to the 20 base challenges, Curated Challenges currently offers:
  • 5 bonus challenges for those who have The Vacant installed
  • 1 bonus Silent challenge for those who have Spire Biomes installed
  • 2 bonus challenges (Hermit, Slime Boss) for those who have Downfall installed

MORE TO COME?

I plan on supporting this mod extensively! Please feel free to voice your opinions on general design, challenge balance, give new challenge ideas, and more.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
  • Elements that completely trivialize challenges have been removed. For example, in the Endoparasitic challenge, you will never encounter the Divine Fountain event for an instant, effortless win.
  • Thank you to the Downfall Discord server for lots of feedback!

难度确实是非常高(在进阶20的情况下),但是很有意思,我很期待有新的挑战

@DokiDokiTulpaClub Hey! Aux. Power is definitely tough, but here's some general tips:

1. Play around the restrictions. Cards that allow you to have more cards in your turn are fantastic: Hello World (don't sleep on this!!), Compile Driver, Equilibrium, etc.
2. Ideally, you should try to keep at least two orb types at all times to keep your Compile Drivers viable.
3. Taking orb cards is generally a trap UNLESS you have either (Runic) Capacitor/Inserter to get more orb slots.

I do think the challenge might be SLIGHTLY too difficult. I just gave it a shot on A20 and did die to Corrupt Heart, but I wouldn't have even made it that far in the first place without some of the lucky relics I got such as Shuriken + Meat on the Bone. If I update this mod again I'll probably keep the challenge as-is, but move it further down the Defect list to indicate that it's a more difficult challenge.

I hate how Auxiliary Power requires you to complete act 4 for no reason when it's already brutal enough as it is, even on ascension 0.

@Lucky_Lunge You're right, it would be helpful to have that information somewhere. I'll spend some time trying to think of the best way to implement that.

(also, Necronomics bans Snecko Eye but does NOT ban Enlightenment. I may have to change that. Hmm...)

(and if you can find a Snecko Eye or not)

I think it would be great if the "elements that trivialize challenges" are specified somewhere in the challenge, some choices for some challenges depends on those elements

For exemple, in the Necronomics challenges (Ironclad where you start with Necronomicon but every card you play costs 1 more every time you play it), I don't know if I can find an Enligthtenment (0 cost card that sets the cost of your cards in your hand to 1 for the turn/combat) in a shop or not.

It would be helpful to have this kind of information
Otherwise great mod!

@Theabest Just updated to address your concerns. I knew these were possible issues while making the mod, but didn't bother fixing them because I genuinely didn't expect people to be making new challenges. It's a nice surprise that I've been proven wrong!

I think the only possible concern now is that you could have so many variables in the challenge definition (lots of cards, lots of special rules, etc) that it goes off screen a bit, but even my own most complex challenge, Duet, doesn't do that, so hopefully that isn't an issue. If it is, I'll push out yet another update, maybe by making the starter cards in two columns rather than one or something.

I am eager to see what you are cooking up...

The increased cap works for what I'm doing, but I'd look into making some changes. If a few different mods all added a few challenges to the same base game character, the current cap could easily be hit. I'd make the scroll be variable based on the number of challenges selected. Also, I'd try to make it so that the challenge selection and the challenge details had different scrolls (or no scroll if it isn't needed). If you select a challenge at the bottom of a list, you have to scroll all the way up to see it.
