Description
Adds additional difficulty options, makes changes to the health and resource-management system to make the game more similar to half-life 1, and buffs weapons to a similar level to those in RTB:R.

If you have some time, please rate the mod and share your experience!

Made based on my other mod for those of you who want to make the game a bit more difficult without going overboard too much.

Game play-tested on the hardest difficulty. Feedback is always appreciated!

Installation
WARNING: This mod modifies skill.cfg (weapon, item, and enemy values) and weapon script files (ammo capacity and drops).

This should be a simple one-click install, but if for some reason the weapon scripts don't work, read the next part.

>If the scripts do not work after subscribing, do the following:
0. Make sure to set this mod with higher priority so that the changes don't get overwritten. You can do this by booting into half life 2, going to extras, workshop, and putting this mod at the top of the mod list.
1. Navigate to steamapps\workshop\content\220\3382225419 and copy workshop_dir.vpk.
By default, it should be in your steam directory at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\220\3382225419
However, if you have Half-Life 2 installed in another drive, you should check those as well.
2. Go to steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2 and paste the file you copied into the "Custom" folder within hl2 directory. If the folder does not exist, create it. The final directory should look something like this: steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\custom.
3. It is recommended you also rename the workshop_dir.vpk file you just copied to something different so that you can install other mods that also require this method of installation.

NOTE: If you are using this in conjunction with the Miscellaneous Tweaks mod, make sure to set it as higher in priority in your load order to ensure the custom crosshairs from that mod work in all episodes.

You are done! Enjoy!

Features

Gameplay Changes
-Half-Life 1-style H.E.V suit: Enemies do more damage, but the H.E.V suit protects you more. Overall, you have more effective health if you keep your suit charged up, but if you run out, you will really feel the armor_gone.mp3 "armor compromised."
-Weapons now drop only about 40% of their maximum clip instead of always dropping their full clip. Ammo crates still vary depending on difficulty.
-Disabled AUTO-RELOADING. If you love reloading your weapons, well, this mod is also for you. Keep your weapons locked and loaded, or suffer the consequences.
-Tweaked difficulties:

*Normal: Challenging enemies. Your weapons do normal damage.
About what you expect, normal difficulty modified with the new H.E.V suit mechanic in mind.

*Hard: Enemies are very tough. Your weapons are less effective.
The hard difficulty you know and love adjusted for the new armor changes.

*Very Hard: Every mistake hurts. Run. Think. Shoot. Live. (Play at your own risk).
Take more damage, deal the same damage as on hard difficultly. Ammo is more scarce. You are no longer playing Half-Life, you are playing Wolfenstein.

-Less ammo, armor, and health pickups (like hard mode in HL1): Every ammo and health drop matters more now. Explore to stay stocked up and try to conserve your health and armor.

*Health Station 50 => 40
*Medkits 25 => 10
*Vials 10 => 5
*Energy Station 75 => 35
*Batteries 15 => 10

-Adjusted ammo capacities and damage for some weapons. Heavy inspiration was taken from RTB:R and EZ:2.

*Pistol max 150 => 90 Dmg 5 => 7
*Magnum max 12 => 18
*SMG max 225 => 180 Dmg 4 => 5
*AR2 max 60 => 80 Dmg 8 => 10
*AR2 clip 30 => 20
*AR2 secondary 3 => 4
*Shotgun max 30 => 24 Dmg 8 => 9
*Shotgun clip 6 => 8

-Buffed the ammo rate of the airboat and reduced its ammo drain rate slightly.
-Buffed health the Rebels to keep up with the new damage values.
-Nerfed strider and gun ships' health by so that they take 4, 5, or 6 rockets respectively depending on difficulty.
-Nerfed the APC's health to 500 for an easier airboat takedown.
-Nerfed the poison headcrab's health to 25 to make it die to 1 magnum shot even on hard.
-Increased the poison zombie's health very slightly so that they no longer die in the same number of hits when using the crossbow (3) vs the revolver (4).
-Increased the regular headcrab's health to 14 (dies to 2 pistol shots on normal and 3 on hard).

So that could be the reason behind those strange bugs or is not related at all?
2.5 Bobux  [author] 17 Jul @ 10:08pm
@SpL15 Oh that's because you need both the workshop_dir and workshop_000 (or something similar) in the same folder when you open it GFCscape.

I didn't rename the vpk, since it was the only mod that installed there as vpk file that had the name "workshop_dir". Although when I copied the vpk file in the custom folder again (since I tried to reinstall the whole game just in case), and opened it with GCFScape just to see if everything was alright, all the files were greyed out and when it tried to open them, the next error popped out in the console below:

Error writing C:\Users\CoreI5\AppData\Local\Temp\gameui_english.txt (Error (0x00000002): Error opening file. El sistema no puede encontrar el archivo especificado.)

The part in spanish says "The system can't find the specified file", I'm not too familiar with this tool or Source modding in general, so maybe I was doing something wrong.

@SpL15 That is very strange, considering that this mod only edits a couple of files. Not really sure why that happened lol. Did you also rename the vpk? Could be a conflict with another mod. It looks like sometimes placing the vpk directly into the custom folder is not enough. Glad you could get that fixed and that you are enjoying the mod!

Oh btw of course, I've been having a lot of fun with this mod. It really adds some of the challenge that HL2 was missing.

So, when you say copy the mod into the custom folder, you are refering to copy and paste the vpk file itself? I did that and for a while there were some really weird bugs:

- The "Very hard" option didn't appear in the menu, only "Hard".
- In the menu screen that shows the plaza, you could hear random explosions in the background that didn't ever stop.
- In the menu screen that shows the inside of the citadel, the Scanners that appear there just randomly exploded whenever the menu finished loading.

Even with all of this, the mod seemed to work just fine. Just to test it and see if it could work, I placed the contents of the vpk file inside a folder, and then placed that folder inside the Custom folder. And lord and behold, everything was fixed. I don't know if I was doing something wrong or I didn't read the instructions correctly, but it was something that was driving me nuts for a while.

@johannbigbones^ Yeah, that section was already pretty difficult in the vanilla game. The whole prison area in general is just a huge difficulty spike with few checkpoints. I wish I could place a couple of extra battery spawns around the map to balance it a bit better. You can definitely do it if you play it very safe and let your antlions draw out most of the fire and abuse the ships' fear of rockets, but other than that not many tips I can give.

@bigfatcarp93 I have a standalone version specifically for MMod that is on gamebanana, I recommend you try that one instead. As for the crash, I am not really sure what it could be, sorry.
2.5 Bobux  [author] 16 Jul @ 7:23pm
@Lemernade :3 It's only a cosmetic change for when you select the difficulty. It should be immediately visible by just subscribing to the mod, unless there is another mod that edits gameui_english.txt. You could try moving the mod up your load order and see if that fixes it. If your language is set to something other than english, you might not see it.

Playing on Very Hard is brutal, I've somehow made it to Nova Prospekt, but I'm stuck in the courtyard cause chip damage deals so much damage.
