About


WASDed mode forces pawn into the direct control during combat. Run around, shoot with a mouse - turn your battle into the shooter scene!



How to play


WASDed mode can only be applied to single drafted Pawn. Select one drafted Pawn and click Go WASD button below (default hotkey: Y. Customizable).

During WASDed mode camera will lock onto pawn and follow your mouse, which will be replaced by crosshair. Crosshair can take 3 different states:
  • Red. Pawn can't aim at the pointed target - it may be behind a wall, too far for that weapon etc.
  • Red, but with sandclock. Pawn can't attack, because he's busy. It could be reloading, eating, tending - anything classified as job in-game. Player usually will see a yellow progress bar when job is in progress.
  • Green. Pawn is ready to shoot. Still, every weapon has a shoot cooldown - it will take some time for weapon to be ready to shoot.
If pawn is undrafted for any reason (wounded, dead, having a mental break), WASDed mode will turn off. WASDed mode is also disabled when different pawn selected, or chosen pawn was unselected. Any unWASDed pawn can go WASDed again as soon as possible - there is no delay or whatsoever.

Various gameplay changes lead to two separate modes: Arcade and Vanilla.


Vanilla


Vanilla mode works as classic as possible. Vanilla WASDed pawns are:
  • Forced to stand still after a shot (calculated by weapon reloading time)
  • Melee attacks are untouched - attacks are a bit slow and clumsy, like vanilla melee is
  • Forced to perform all the jobs standing still, even jobs like CE reloading, eating etc.
Overall, Vanilla mode is mostly as balanced as a base game - more control limitations, but still as handy as possible.


Arcade


Arcade mode aims to bring a bit more «fun» movement, yet still retaining balanced feeling. Arcade pawns are:
  • Move around freely when shooting
  • Melee attacks can be faster at the cost of arm exhaustion - temporal reducement of Manipulation, Moving and Sight. Tweakable in settings
  • Can move when performing self-targeted jobs. Speed multiplier during jobs is available in settings.
Overall, Arcade mode is more OP than Vanilla, but still has it debuffs.

Important!


WASDed Pawn is still in it's very raw state - most likely, there will be unbalanced, too OP or straight up broken moments. It is, however, a working proof of concept of having a fully functional WASD mode in Rimworld. This mod will be polished with it's every next update.




Mod compatibility


So far, mod have been tested with a lot of gameplay/content-related mods, and very few issues have been found. However, WASDed Pawn drastically changes behaviour of controlled pawn, so full mod compatibility is not guaranteed. Yet and still, WASDed works perfectly with:
Moreover, it is highly recommended to use WASDed together with these three mods for best experience. WASDed still pretty WASDed on it's own, though.


Known issues


WASDed Pawn bears quite a lot of code and gameplay changes, so some issues are, for now, unavoidable. Problems that I'm aware of and desperately trying to fix:
  • Clicking any of the menu items will force pawn to shoot towards the button
  • Some modded weapons are incompatible, forcing pawn to shoot infinitely. This is #1 issue that I'm looking into
  • Some skills (like psycasts) are incompatable - using them during WASD will most likely force pawn to interrupt it.

It would be nice if a pawn's shooting/melee skill had more of an effect on WASD gameplay somehow. Though thats probably just wishful thinking.

@Heretic thanks for the feedback! right now i'm focused on releasing another my mod (more info on it in discord). after that my main goal will be rewriting WASD from scratch for better compatibility and stability. problems with modded weapons isn't their issue - it's just every mod treats it's weapons differently. I'll continue searching for a best way to implement combat.

@Saneez I tried to enable this mod now, but there are no changes, the shotgun still shoots 30 shots per second like a weapon of death.

@Heretic found that enabling run and gun mod, even though its not been updated yet, seems to fix that issue.
