Valve is known to re-use assets across their games. Notably, there are some models in games such as Counter-Strike: Source and Day of Defeat: Source that are identical or slightly different to those seen in Half-Life 2. Often, the only difference these models have is their texture and material file path.

These duplicated models are included in this addon, but their material files have been edited such that they reference an appropriate texture file from Half-Life 2 / Garry's Mod. This eliminates the need to have these games in order to have these models. However, this addon is not a substitute for owning Counter-Strike: Source and other Valve games, nor does it fix all "ERROR" models or missing textures on maps that use assets from other Valve games. For that, you'll need to buy the relevant games and mount them in Garry's Mod.

Additionally, some models in Valve's other games still reference material files from Half-Life 2, but the models themselves are only part of other games assets. For example, some fence models in Half-Life 2: Episode 2 or the broken Combine wall model from Half-Life 2: Episode 1 reference Half-Life 2 material files. These kinds of models are included as well.

Q: Do I need Counter-Strike: Source or any other games to use this addon?
A: Nope!

Q: Is this addon a substitute for actually owning Counter-Strike: Source or any other games?
A: Nope! You need to buy them to get all of the proper assets. Once you've purchased the games, you no longer need this addon.

Q: How many models does this addon include?
A: 131.

A: Here's a list.

Q: Why is the "Invisible Material" addon required?
A: The "door03_left" model from Half-Life 2: Episode 1 features a submodel ("bodygroup") which references a texture only found in that game. As I can't include texture files themselves from other games, this submodel has been made invisible.

Q: Can I use this while other games are mounted?
A: Yes, but some models will not appear as originally intended on maps that utilize them. For instance, the barrel models on de_train from Counter-Strike: Source will not have any radioactive or biohazard symbols, as the material they use has been changed to reference the Half-Life 2 barrel textures.

Q: Will any more models be added?
A: Probably not, unless I find more clever ways to edit a model's material file to work with Half-Life 2's texture set. The Episode 2 silo control room monitor model was a bit of a pain to get the substitute screen textures to line up with $basetexturetransform.

Q: What about "fallback" map textures from other games?
A: Highly unlikely.

Wonderful concept. I already own, and have mounted all the inclued games so it is REALLY not for me, but most will probably prefer it, instead of using very sketchy pirated packs or use some of the current alternatives.
