The Cardassian Union is a powerful, authoritarian state built on order, loyalty, and ruthless pragmatism. Once a proud and spiritual people, the Cardassians were driven by desperation and resource scarcity to become a militarized, expansionist regime governed by the Central Command and the feared Obsidian Order. In the name of survival and national glory, the Union has become a machine of control - efficient, oppressive, and unrelenting.

Cardassian society is hierarchical and state-centric. Personal ambition is encouraged only when it serves the state, and dissent is crushed before it can spread. Citizens are taught to revere the Union above all else; family, honor, and duty are inseparable from service to Cardassia. The Obsidian Order, one of the most feared intelligence agencies in the galaxy, monitors thought, speech, and even emotion, ensuring absolute loyalty and eliminating perceived weakness.

Cardassian architecture, fashion, and technology reflect their core values: strength, discipline, and unity. Their warships - most notably the Galor-class cruiser - are durable and effective, emphasizing practicality over extravagance. Though not always the most advanced, their military compensates with cunning strategy, overwhelming force, and an unshakable belief in Cardassian superiority.

The Union’s history includes brutal occupations, such as that of Bajor, and uneasy alliances with powers like the Dominion - decisions often driven by a desperate desire to preserve Cardassian power in a hostile galaxy. While many outsiders see the Cardassians as cold and cruel, within the Union, loyalty and sacrifice are celebrated as virtues that bind their people together.

To know Cardassia is to understand the price of survival in an unforgiving universe: vigilance, discipline, and the will to endure - at any cost.
