Description
The Lexington class Corvette is another pre-war relic that has survived the Revolution and continues to see service in the Free Citizens' Republic Navy. Over the years, the Lexington class received a number of refits. The most radical of which occured in 2179, with the Fleet Modernization Program.

Lexington class vessels are used as heavy scouts and picket ships. They feature full prospecting, resourcing and manufacturing suites as well as being well armed for its displacement. The main weapon system is a battery of heavy rockets mounted in a spinal configuration.

Despite all this equipment, the Lexington class is also capable of limited atmospheric flight, allowing it to support ground operations as well as conduct detail reconnaissance of a planet's surface.

During the Revolutionary War, these corvettes were used to setup a number of communications relays, minefields, and fulfilling other in-situ engineering needs under combat conditions.

This version is the pre-war era version.

Reminds me of the Rhino from Galaxy On Fire 2.

@wildcard, neato, the lexington will make a fine addition to my fleet.

@jaxjace, it can land and leave planets. Just have to be careful with when you turn on your hydrogen engines. You should be able to stage your climb out of a planet.

@Wildcard, naturally i assumed it wouldnt be super agile, I am wondering specifically if its capable of landing on and leaving planets.

@jaxjace Don't expect it to move like a fighter. It's big and heavy and takes a bit of time to respond. That being said, I have heard of people doing barrel rolls and loop to loops in atmosphere with this thing.

What is its atmoshperic limitations?

...Furthermore, a ship's class is merely a designation, mainly for a hull configuration. A "Lexington class" Corvette class ship will look like ^ this ^. It may have different things on, in, or with it, but it will still be a Lexington class Corvette. If I replaced the gatlings with rockets, changed the armor at the rear, added 20 more holy antennas batman and more cargo space, removed the atmospheric capability to improve spaceflight... It will still be a Lexington class Corvette. All it's for is easily identifying a layout and design for a Corvette, with more clarity, and convenience, than "that specific Corvette, y'know, the one where the first one they made was named the Lexington". It took me a long time to understand that myself, part of the confusion coming from the fact that "Lexington", and "Corvette", for example, are both TYPES of "class", but in a different meaning. Hard to fix that tho.

...Here, have a rant. I've always wanted to give this rant.

Sweet!

I tried to keep within the bounds of modern real world wet navy displacements when determining classifications.
