(STS) NASA Space Shuttle Orbiter V 2.3

Description
This is a part of Struppey's and Tatz' Scenario(STS)
This ship is compatible with the External Tank, the left and right Solid Rocket Boosters
You find the (NOT PLANET READY) Orbiter Version 1.1 here

There it is! Our new NASA Space Shuttle Orbiter. You wanted us to build a hydrogen version of the Orbiter which has not been very easy but now it is completed and ready for launch! We had to redesign the whole spacecraft to make it fly in the atmosphere and space as well.

To launch it you have to connect it to the External Tank. Make sure you connect the ET Group “ET Thrusters”, the Timer “Left SRB 1” and the Timer “Right SRB 1” to the Orbiters Timer “STS Launch”. This will make sure that all engines ignite at the same time!

For Landing you just let gravity pull you down a bit.
The Orbiter has enough atmo thrusters to hover, but only a few to the front. So it will keep altitude but move forward all the time (just like an airplane).
As there is no aerodynamical physics available yet, this is a bit tricky and improvised but hey - this is engineering ;)
Just try it and let us know how you feel with that and what we could do better.
Try to make a smooth approach to the runway.
Lower the gear (8-2) and touch down as smooth as possible. You can use the Group “Landing Thrusters” (8-4) for Touchdown – this will deactivate some of the thrusters that hold you in the air and therefore increase your rate of descent.
When on the ground use the group “Ground Thrusters” (8-5) to put more weight on the wheels and activate the parachute (8-6). DO NOT SWITCH OFF THE ENERGY! This will also switch off all atmospheric thrusters and damage your landing gear – it can not handle all the weight!
Press the Brakes (8-7) top stop.

Features and Improvements:

- Planet-ready
- Survival-ready
- Oxygen-ready
- atmospheric thrusters
- ability to land on a planet like an airplane (this due to 49 small atmospheric thrusters which will simulate “aerodynamics” and enable the Orbiter to hover
- 3 Large Hydrogen Thrusters
- completely redesigned interior and exterior
- Space for 7 brave astronauts

Bugs:

- unfortunately we had to remove the Remote Manipulator System for now. The Piston and Rotor physics in the game does not work properly yet – so at certain speeds the RMS would separate and crash the ship. We are trying to solve this!
- we had to remove the airbrakes for the same reason

Mods: - none - (business as usual)

Scale: 1:1

Mass: 288 020 kg

@Overwatch:
Select Shortcuts Group 2 (Ctrl+2)
Make sure the Rotors are ON (Button 2)
Reverse the Rotors with Button 1 (that will open them)

how do you open bay doors

Windows were added in update 2.3 ;)
Looks a lot brighter in the cockpit!

Struppey, can we contact through private message? I have some questions ;)

To launch it you have to connect the timer blocks to the External Tank. Make sure you connect the ET Group “ET Thrusters”, the Timer “Left SRB 1” and the Timer “Right SRB 1” to the Orbiters Timer “STS Launch”. This will make sure that all engines ignite at the same time
Then, just Start the Countdown and it should work.

Give me a few weeks, I will definitely do a video on that in the future. Thanks ;)

Yeah, It works, thank you. But I don't know how to use engines only in rocket. I disabled all engines in Orbiter and whole ship (Orbiter + External Tank and additional rockets) is rolling on its back xD

It would be great if you create a something like tutorial for that ;)
Good job, every model looks awesome ;)

Hey LaVeN! Actually it should work. The procedure is the same as for the V1.0, you can look it up in the Guide
1. Paste the External Tank
2. Paste one Booster and fly it to the tank. The camera is just below the connector. They should connect as soon as they are close to each other
3. Same for the other Booster
4. Paste the Orbiter and rotate it nose up
5. Move it with the heavy lifter and connect it to the tank - this is a bit tricky and at the moment the Orbiter may get damaged!
6. Move it all to the MLP

Just make sure all connectors are switched to "on". What exactly do you mean with "rocket higher than shuttle"?
Sorry I am currently setting up my new PC so I wont be able to show it. But I will make a "how to" Video in the near future!

Hello, I have a problem to connect all parts (for example rocket is higher than Shuttle :/ I tried everything but I can't connect connectors each other

thanks, it works now :)
