Description
It's a simple idea where the grid is cast by shadows from transparent tiles giving you a guide that curves around objects and elevates with the terrain. I'm sure there are a lot of of ways you could use these. I imagine they could be useful for Warhammer, D&D and other RPG's. Let me know if you find other good uses.

For ShadowGrids there are two ways to set it up. Either use the the tiles that are pre-elevated using a collider. In which case you will probably want to bury the collider after you place it to avoid interfering with objects underneath. Or alternatively, if you prefer, you can take the transparent tiles, align them to the grid and elevate them so that they cast a shadow. Keep in mind you have to place them pretty high to get around the lift issues from other objects if using this technique.

Or you could just use them to add grids to anything that doesn't already have them without ruining the look.

Keep on gaming,

Almega

Special Thanks to Salynrad for helping me get the models and colliders working properly.

UPDATE:
Added Hex tile. Added full sized grids for easier placement. Made all ground tiles tintable. Size them, lock them and place them where you want.

This should be a very lightweight mod, but it loads several models that don't exist.

I'm having trouble resizing the grid for smaller tiles to better match the other objects on the board. Whenever I use Gizmo to resize the grid the lines disappear or get very faint. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Is there a guide somewhere on how to set this up? I have a scene for D&D I want to use, but half the 3d models cover the grid. THis feature would be nice so we can see the lines on everything, but I can't figure out how to make it work.

Almega,
Using shadows is a great idea. I have added this concept to my newest workshop (releasing today). I am surprised that more people haven't incorporated this fantastic idea into their work. I have been using shadows (privately) since the first moment I heard about it, although I didn’t know whom I had to thank for the idea. Thank You.

@versteeg.dave082. glad you find it useful. I responded to your question in the discussion section to avoid filling up the comments with a wall of text.

This is a great mod. Thanks for making it. Im a dm for the dungeons and dragons game. i make a lot of my own encounters, but this mod of yours helps a lot.
but i have a question. in your text you say "In which case you will probably want to bury the collider after you place it to avoid interfering with objects underneath."
What do you mean by that, and how do i do that, because sometimes i have object that collide with other objects and that is not good. So if you know a way to turn that of could you please explain.

Added custom table sized grids for easier placement. Made all ground tiles tintable. Let me know if this impacts anything negatively.
