Want a real forest? I have just the thing for you! This mod drastically increases plant density and turns your sparse woodlands and jungles into a primordial forest. THIS MOD WILL MAKE YOUR GAME MUCH MUCH HARDER IN THE BEGINNING; that is intended!

PLEASE NOTE

I'd like to quickly note that this, as well as all of my mods, will actively (not passively) make your game harder to manage. Paths made without digging roads will erode, Terrain will be distinctly uncooperative, and rain can make dealing with the woodland wall a true hassle.

CONFLICT AWARENESS: This mod currently conflicts with the Vegetable Garden and will conflict with any other mod that makes changes to biomes or the plants and animals that spawn there (not including incident-based creatures/npcs). That conflict is due to how much information is kept in the biome file and is just how Rimworld is written at the moment. I am in the process of investigating ways to work around this. I will say though, take a look at the discussions page about tweaking this mod because what i've done here is not very complex and is something that you can merely recreate yourself with the adjustment of only a few variables. Rimworld is written so that it has ONE file (for each biome) that contains: Biome Map generation, Terrain generation, Vegetation type and freqency, creature type and freqency, ILLNESS TYPE AND FREQENCY, FACTION BASE SELECTION WEIGHTS, and Biome weather type and freqency.

TREE TYPES
  1. True Trees
    • Teak - 1200 Work for 50 Wood (3rd most efficient) (Jungle)
    • Oak - 1000 Work for 40 Wood (2nd most efficient) (Temperate)
    • Pine - 700 Work for 30 Wood (1st most efficient) (Boreal)
  2. Clutter Trees
    • Poplar - 180 Work for 9 Wood (Temperate)
    • Birch - 160 Work for 8 Wood (Boreal)
    • Cecropia - 150 Work for 6 Wood (Jungle)

Kudzu is a mod that is split into three versions. This is only one version of the trio. It is split into:
  1. Base Version *YOU ARE HERE*
Increases vegetation and trees significantly; alters terrain generation.
  2. Kudzu: Hostile Forest
Increases vegetation and trees significantly; alters terrain generation. Increases predator presence.
  3. Kudzu: Deadly Forest
(The mod that I use) Increases vegetation and trees significantly; alters terrain generation. Increases predator presence. Strengthens predators and large mammals considerably; Alters the leather of some stronger animals in terms of comfort and beauty (to a max of 30% which is almost negligible compared to the effect of build quality)

This mod does five major things and only effects:
Boreal Forest, Temperate Forest, and Jungle.
  • Increases overall vegetation (trees ect.)
  • Majorly changes the terrain map generator (the thing that makes lakes and such, has no effect on ore placement).
  • Increases reasonably the variety of possible predators.
  • Shifts the spawn weights of animals toward more dangerous predators.
  • Increases animal density on the map, especially for predators.

!CRITICAL DISCLAIMERS!
  • ONLY USE ONE VERSION OF THIS MOD AT A TIME! They are all just degrees of the same general thing.
  • All "Kudzu" mods are intended to be used on new games (once terrain is generated, that terrain is permanent) *BUT* the vegetation, animal density, and animal variety SHOULD gradually change even on old saves.
  • Kudzu SHOULD be able to be added or removed freely on both old and new saves; animal density, vegetation, and animal variety will slowly revert to whatever biome definitions are in use.
  • This mod has absolutely no effect on farm crops or plants within grow zones that are planted by the player. It is unclear whether plants within grow zones count toward the plant density but if it does, then it is more than likely a negligible value/contribution.

Other Notes:

  • Wildfires are now the bane of your existence.
  • Boreal forest will now show as light pink to make it more easily differentiated from the tundra biome.
  • Boreal forest will now generate ice on some of its lakes.
  • Devilstrand mushrooms and healroot will now appear in all dense forest biomes very rarely.
  • Cacti will now spawn in jungle biomes very rarely.
  • A few animals, especially predators, now will show up very rarely in biomes 1 step away from their native temperature
  • A larger variety of flowers will now spawn in the wild.

If predators are allowed to thrive for too long they will wipe out their food supply and begin hunting you!

i feel the game needs more of these kind of mods, sadly 1.4 has made a mess of everything again :D

Definitely needs some user defined adjuustment slider in mod settings; I find this mod to be amazing; but at the same time it cripples my system over time to the point of game crash. Removing the mod, perfect fps/tps but with after about 30 minutes it gets real bad. By late game your map is nearly solid with trees (which is cool).

I heard you were back, I was wondering if there was a chance of you adding in some settings for like density amount? Like a 0-100% scale. That way in larger packs you can still have some density without completely destroying your games fps because this mod works wonderful when it's in a light pack but tends to get weird with a lot of mods. I also wanted to let you know that with the Comigo's Tree reskin mod, this tends to have weird fps stutters and that's tested in packs large and small and with just this mod, and the reskin mod by itself. Again the more mods the worse it is I just wanted to mention just in case.

Also if you added in settings there is a chance that you could take this version and combine it with the other two versions as optional settings that can be enabled or disabled but I'm not a mod-maker just a player so I know pretty much nothing.

PPS. Thank you for this, I love the insane starting difficulty this provides. <3

Tossing errors, here's a few:

This looks like a great mod! However, it seems to mess with dev mode or the such. I think it is because the mod was updated to 1.3 before ideology officially came out maybe?

hmmh, do you plan to update Hostile and Deadly versions?
