Description
This is not a puzzle.

Binary Number System (4-digit)

Binary Number System (5-digit without numbers on the wall)

The buttons from left to right represent 2^3, 2^2, 2^1, 2^0, respectively.

*********************************Connection List************************************
There are four buttons.
2^0 is Button 1
2^1 is Button 2
2^2 is Button 3
2^3 is Button 4
We'll name them B1-B4

And there are 8 lasers and 15 flip panels, each panel represents a number from 1 to 15 (there could be 16 panels if you want to include 0). We'll name them L1-L8 and P1-P15

Because there are maximum 8 connections per item, I have to connect the buttons to lasers first,
and split each of L1-L8 into two lasers. So there are actually more than 8 lasers, but I won't list the splitting here.

L1-L4 start disabled and L5-L8 start enabled

B1 - L1L8
B2 - L2L7
B3 - L3L6
B4 - L4L5

(if you want to include 0, connect to L5678)
P1 - L1567
P2 - L2568
P3 - L1256
P4 - L3678
P5 - L1357
P6 - L2358
P7 - L1235
P8 - L4678
P9 - L1467
P10 - L2468
P11 - L1246
P12 - L3478
P13 - L1347
P14 - L2348
P15 - L1234

Cool. Thanks.

Very nice concept!
Is somebody in here interested in a pretty designed puzzle, made out of digital circuits?
I can highly recommend my " PortCalc " for binarylogicians like us ^_-

Ah, I see. Instead of splitting lasers, though, a useful trick is to put an extra relay in the laser's path. Just a little note for the future :)

I actually built the 5-digit system first. In that one, I had to split the lasers. Then I built the 4-digit one by modifying the 5-digit one. So i didn't need to count how many connections each item has to have, as there must be already enough space.
So you probably can build the 4 digit one without splitting them.

Why did you need to split the lasers? I managed to fit all of the connections into eight:

Wow thank you so much for your effort. :-)

The connection list is the description now.

Hi Shane,
I'm with Geneosis. This is a very interesting thing but I'd like to know how. Maybe you can write a connection list. You see what I mean when you visit some of my circuitry maps and look into the description.

wow.........wow

Well in theory you just have to place the button close enough to the lasers they activate and the antline will be visible ^^ So maybe move all the laser mechanism in front of the buttons or something...
